[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hello my friends and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews where we are here on day 10 of our 12 Days of Christmas. I hope you're having a lot of fun. So far, the guesses that I am getting and just absolutely make my day. Some people are just spot on the money.
Some people I. It's like it, this is Christmas themed. So the answers are likely going to be Christmas themed. I'm not sure.
There was one particular one that we had that it was about what song was written for another holiday and somebody guessed the Star Spangled Banner. Now I'm not going to name the person by name, but if that's you, I would advise you to guess again because we this is not the Fourth of July. This is Christmas. Today is December 22nd.
And while we are here with yet another movie for you now, some people are starting to catch on to the theme. The theme that all 12 of these movies are going to have in common. I have yet to see a correct answer, but some people are on the right path.
So if you're starting to figure that out, awesome. If not, come back and watch these videos. In every single one of these trailers there is some sort of a clue as to what the answer is. And this one is not. No, this one's not any different. There is a major clue in this trailer for what the thing is actually it comes out and it's like right there of what the answer is. So if you're paying attention to the trailers or watching these, it's, it's not quite as difficult as it sounds. I know it seems like it's a lot more, more intense than it is, but you may be wondering what movie are we talking about today?
Well, I will say this movie today has an innocent rating. Now there is some like borderline language in this one. There's just a little bit of cussing, but story wise there's nothing inappropriate that would be too much for a younger viewer with this one. If you are a fan of science fiction, I'm sure you are very familiar with this movie. And if you're not a fan of science fiction, this one might be a place to start if you have any interest in this at all. What movie is that? We are talking about the 1994 release of Stargate. Now I'm not talking about the television series Stargate SG1. I'm talking about the movie that started the, the plethora of the idea.
Now if, if you are here on our channel on YouTube or on Rumble, you can see the poster. It says it will take you A million light years from home.
But will it bring you back?
Now, if you're familiar with the TV series or the movie, you know what I'm referring to with that. And I am referring to the Stargate. Don't you know me? Don't worry. No spoilers ever. You don't ever have to worry about any of these spoilers with me. So. So we're all good there. This one, I did change it quite a bit for my podcast image. I was trying to figure out how to make this work, and so I did make quite a few changes. I'm going to switch this over here so you can see what I did. And here is our podcast image. I kind of. I brought it in, kind of shrunk it in on itself and of course I had to change the lettering because I couldn't get the lettering to come through where it was readable. It was all just like blurry and it just was very low quality. So I was not going to do that. So.
But this is what I did for the podcast image. So if you were on our. If you want to look for the podcast for this to share with other people and of course to like and share and subscribe, this is, this is the image that you're going to want to look for. But again, this is the theatrical movie poster for this. Now, like I said, I'm giving this an innocent rating, which may surprise some of you, but like I said, there is some language in it, but story wise, it's definitely. There's nothing inappropriate that would be too much for a younger viewer.
Now, you pro. I want to share with you the trailer on this one. Now, the trailer that I found for this, mind you, this came out in 1994. It's not the greatest quality, but it's about the best trailer for this that I could find. So let's jump over to that. And of course, then I'll be back and we'll talk more about the movie.
[00:03:58] Speaker B: It has been buried for thousands of years.
A mystery, a secret.
[00:04:12] Speaker A: That is the Stargate. If you are watching this video with us right now, the round thing that they are raising up out of the sand, that is the Stargate threshold to the future.
Now, that part of the trailer is a little misleading because it mentions that it's a threshold to the future. This is not a time travel movie. I just want to kind of like, put that subtext in there a little bit. This movie is not about time travel, but it is about something amazing.
Where'd you find this? I've never Seen anything like this.
[00:04:45] Speaker B: One man will break the code and open the door. Well, it should read Sergey.
[00:04:51] Speaker A: That was in front of us the whole time.
[00:04:53] Speaker B: The other will lead the way.
[00:04:56] Speaker A: Why are you here?
[00:04:57] Speaker B: I'm here in case you succeed.
[00:04:59] Speaker A: And yes, if you recognize the voice or you recognize the face, that is a very young Kurt Russell Jackson. Identify the seventh symbol. Back of storage. Reserve power on.
What is that?
It's your star game.
[00:05:14] Speaker B: We've opened a doorway to a world we know nothing about.
[00:05:17] Speaker A: The thing locked itself onto a point somewhere in the Kium galaxy.
[00:05:21] Speaker B: It's on the other side of the known universe. Your turn now. They prepared for danger. Begin final evacuation. They expected the unknown stabilizing system. Initiated commencement sequence. But they could never have imagined this.
[00:05:39] Speaker A: Imagine walking through a doorway into another world, like into another planet outside of our galaxy. It's like just the.
Oh, I'll kind of get into that a little bit more. And you know me, like I said, no spoilers ever.
[00:06:00] Speaker B: What a rush.
[00:06:07] Speaker A: Stay right here and shoot anything that comes down that ramp.
[00:06:10] Speaker B: The job here is to realign the Stargate. Can you do that or not? I can't.
What the hell is going on?
My orders were simple. Track down signs of any possible danger.
Well, I found some.
How can you make it work without seven simple.
We have to abandon face down.
[00:06:40] Speaker A: You got seven minutes.
[00:06:43] Speaker B: Now the most amazing discovery of our time.
[00:06:46] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:47] Speaker B: Wait for me. Is about to become the most extraordinary adventure of all time.
Kurt Russell James Spader Jay Davidson.
Stargate, a Roland Emmerich film.
[00:07:07] Speaker A: So that was the trailer. Like I said, if you're watching that, it did appear a little bit grainy, but that was about the best version of the trailer that I could find of one that was more than just like a little teaser portion of it. I didn't want to show just a few seconds. I wanted it to kind of play through.
But this Stargate, for those who can't, like, see the screen at the moment, and I do invite you to come over and check out our YouTube and our rumble, or our rumble channels to kind of check out the video, because you just get to see more and you get to experience more through the video than on audio. And of course, I love all my audio listeners, and I'm not trying to disparage that in the least, but, you know, there's just a little bit more over here on the video side of it, so I'm hoping it'll come over now. Stargate, if. If you're expecting any part of this to be historically accurate, you're gonna be sadly mistaken.
But it's fantasy. It is ancient Egypt, and it is sci fi, and it is like all these different things. And if you're a fan of the TV series Sliders, when you. When they're traveling through the Stargate, what you see is they're kind of going through this whole, like, wormhole thing is it looks like what the graphics did on Sliders when they were traveling in between worlds.
So that's what that reminded me of. Now, Stargate is basically, if you mix Indiana Jones with Star wars and add a little bit of the dark crystal, you get Stargate. Now you're like, how do you combine those movies?
Good question. But there's definitely inspirations from the Indiana Jones series as well as Star wars that are unmistakable inspirations in this.
And it's. It's a lot of fun. But basically you have a bunch of scientists in ancient Egypt and all night.
It started in ancient Egypt, but it was back in 1939 when the Stargate was discovered. And of course, the government kept everything quiet, but there was all these ancient hieroglyphics and stuff on parts of it. But then there was this whole set of symbols that had nothing to do with the language or the hieroglyphics. And they couldn't decode them. So they reached out to the scientist dude and they were like, okay, we need somebody to decode this.
Well, the, the other symbols weren't language. They were constellations. And, you know me. No spoilers. This is not spoiling anything, but it dials into, like, where the doorway leads to.
And once once they go across and into this, where the door, the doorway takes them, it's not as easy to get back as it would seem. Hence, like, what it says on the poster here is, it will take you a million light years from home, but will it bring you back? And that's kind of the whole thing with this is are they able to get back what happens? And do more people come through? Do more people come back? What do we take with us? What do we bring back?
There's so much going on here, and there's so much development to this story.
It's. It's a lot of fun. If you've ever been a fan of stories like the Fifth Element or anything like along those lines, this is going to be one that's going to be right up your. Your alley.
Can't talk, But I am giving Stargate, mind you, It's. There's a lot of errors in this, and there's a lot of Plot holes, which are honestly, they're answered in the TV series, but story wise in the movie, it just.
It's very entertaining, but there's a lot of, like, where you're just kind of scratching your head like, huh.
So score wise, I am coming in at a 6.5 out of 10 on the deputy scale. Now, maybe that might be a little high for, like, what it was, but it's like, I also compare it to other movies in that in this category where I've given scores like this and I'm like, okay, I've given scores of 6.25 that weren't quite as good as this, and I've given scores of 6.75 that were better than this. So I not only used my deputy scale as a reference based purely on what it is, but I also use it as a reference based on where I've scored other movies in the same categories.
So when you get to the point you where you've reviewed over 2, 000 movies, like I have, it just gets intense. And so trying to make sure that I'm falling right where the movie belongs, score wise on that sometimes takes a little bit of just kind of going back and forth like, do I want to go a little lower? Do I want to go a little higher? Where do I want to end up with on this?
But that's where I did end up for this was a 6.5 out of 10 on the Deputy scale, which for those who are not Familiar with a 6 is watchable. Good story, some flaws, a 7 is watchable. Memorable plot with questionable content.
And so this kind of falls right in between those two just a little bit.
So you may be wondering what our Day 10 question is. You're probably going get around to the trivia question. I want the trivia question. Well, here it is.
Which of Santa's reindeer has the same name as another holiday mascot?
Again, that's which of the reindeer of Santa's.
Of Santa's reindeer has the same name as another holiday mascot. Now, this one's not quite as difficult as it sounds if you know the names of the reindeer. And don't worry, I'm not gonna. You're gonna have to look those up if you don't. But that is our day 10 question. So I'm hoping you are having as much fun with this as I am.
