[00:00:01] Speaker A: Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews. As you can tell by the poster over here and of course by the title, we are talking about the new DC movie, Clayface. Now, I'm fully aware that this movie came out last weekend, and we've got some other movies coming out this weekend, and I'm not gonna leave you disappointed on that at all. But come on, tomorrow's Halloween, so I had to sneak this one in. And of course, we're gonna get a special movie for tomorrow along with another special surprise. Now, what is that gonna be? You're gonna have to wait and find out. But I can guarantee you're going to be happy, because I know I am. But with Clayface, this one is Gore for Gore's sake. D.C. has really pushed the boundary on some of their movies, but this one kind of takes it to another level. If you are sensitive to Gore, if you are sensitive to flashing lights, like if you have epilepsy or something, then this may not be the movie for you. But if. If you are, if you know what to expect with Clayface, then there's. There's a lot here to unpack. Now, I remember I saw the trailer in the theaters a few times for this, but as I was re watching this trailer, I found myself just kind of going in a few spots and, okay, gore does not bother me. I mean, I'm entertained by things like the Saw movies, and a lot of times, the gorier the better. I tend to laugh at horror movies. I say if I laugh at them, that kills the score right there. But this one is not a comedy in any way, shape or form, but it is just gore. There is some story to it, but it is gore on top of gore on top of gore to the point where at times I wanted to go, I didn't completely turn away. Like, where I'm, like, squinting my eyes and just, like, turning away. Not completely turning away, but I mean, just where it was a lot, even for somebody like me. And that says a lot. People that know me personally when I've said that to them, they're like, oh, it must be bad. And it's not that it's that bad, the story. I mean, there's. There's a lot of plot holes and there's just a lot of other things going on with that. But before we get into too much of the story, because you notice I haven't talked much about the story itself yet, let's watch the trailer. And I will, of course, pause it at key points as we go through this Together. Show me. Show me now. The mask that Matt Hagen wears. Matt Hagen is the actor that this movie is about. And that's not. That's. The actor's character in the movie is. He's also playing an actor, but he wears a mask very reminiscent of the Phantom of the Opera type mask, but not quite. And it's definitely not a story. It's just. That's the. The mask is very reminiscent of. [00:02:55] Speaker B: Do you realize? Free. What do you want, Ms. Han? [00:03:03] Speaker C: I want my life back. [00:03:07] Speaker D: I know you. You're famous. The most beautiful [00:03:13] Speaker C: face. It's a tragedy of what they did to him. Boo. I'd like to volunteer for human trials. [00:03:24] Speaker B: This isn't cosmetics, [00:03:26] Speaker A: okay? Even in parts of this trailer, it can be a little intense [00:03:31] Speaker B: surgery. [00:03:32] Speaker C: Even if he kills me, I'll be better off than I am now. Matt. Matt. What? I'm okay. You okay? Okay. I feel great, actually. I have no idea what side effects you'll have [00:04:00] Speaker E: or how to treat them. Sir, sir, the seatbelt sign is on. [00:04:07] Speaker B: We're in unknown territory. [00:04:10] Speaker A: Okay. There's a scene right here in the trailer. If you're watching this over here on our YouTube channel, or if you're just watching the trailer when he steps into the airport bathroom, if you are, or the airplane bathroom, if you are sensitive to gore, you may want to close your eyes for just a few seconds because there's something that happens here that if you are squeamish at all, this is going to be too much. Okay? It's safe to look again. [00:04:48] Speaker C: What's happening to me? If you're harboring feelings of anger, you need to let them go. Wanna know how I feel? The people I trusted betrayed me. The justice system failed me. They stole my career, my money, my life. I'm a monst. [00:05:34] Speaker A: I think in a lot of ways, this movie was trying to be like what the Blob was back in the day, but not. Not in the literal sense of that, but I think it was definitely inspired by that type of story. Here you have Matt Hagen, and he gets caught up in a situation that he should not have been in. And there are some bad people that come to make him pay for some of those decisions. And what they do is they basically destroy his face. Well, he is a major Hollywood actor, and Hollywood is all about beauty standards. Impossible beauty standards. Most of the time. I think of, like, the Jack's Victoria's Secret song has nothing to do with this movie, but it's just very similar to that, that they expect you to be perfect. They expect you to be to just fit within a little box. They expected to be this, that or the other thing. And he no longer fits into that because of what his face is now. And so basically Hollywood drops him like a hot potato. Well, he finds a way to kind of get back at those that have hurt him in the literal and the not so literal senses in that. But he's so determined to get back to who he is that he undergoes this experimental treatment. And it gives him a chance to be him again. But it comes with a cost. That cost is maybe more, a little bit more than he might be willing to pay. But only time will tell what's going to happen with this movie. Well, like I said, it is gore for gore's sake. I mean, this movie, DC literally steps up, this is not a superhero movie. This is, this is a vigilante movie. This is a super villain movie. I don't know if Clayface is supposed to be a vigilante or a super villain, but that's definitely how it comes across in this movie. If you hadn't already guessed, I am giving Clayface a guilty rating. I would honestly recommend upper teens. I don't know if I'd even recommend this to younger teens. I usually say 12 or 13 and above for guilty, but I would say upper teens adulthood just because some of the scenes in this are very, very intense. And like I said, if you have a sensitive stomach, if you are sensitive to blood and gore, sensitive to flashing lights, and there's a lot of parts of this that are self harm, that are difficult for a lot of people to watch. There were people that got up out of the theater when I had seen this and they got up and walked out. I can kind of understand why, like, so this really pushes some of those boundaries. Now. What will happen to Matt? Does he get to have his life back? It kind of touched on some of those little things in the trailer that I don't want to go into too much depth on because I would honestly consider them spoilers. And you know me, no spoilers ever. But what, how this movie wraps up leads to the fact that there could be more. Will there be? That's up for a lot of debate now, score wise on Clayface. When I first watched this, I called my sister and we were talking and I'm like, where I thought I was going to end up on the score ended up being a long ways from where I actually ended up with it. Because there's actually a lot to this story. It's just you have to get past The. The stuff that just makes you cringe, the stuff that makes you turn away, the pure gore level. You have to get past that to find the story. So where does that put this one? I am coming in with Clayface at a surprising 5.75 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. Now, that means it's a decent story and that there are significant flaws. Does that mean that it's not worth watching? Absolutely not. This absolutely is worth watching, especially if you are a DC fan or if you're familiar with the graphic novels of Clayface and you want to follow up and check out the story. Absolutely. But this one. It. It. You know, it probably should have come out this weekend instead of last weekend because of just the fact of just the EW factor. And I'm not saying the you factor. That just EW factor. And if nothing else, you got to come over on the YouTube channel just to check out the facial expressions, because I never disappoint on that. I'm just like, oh. But as always, I hope that you are having fun with this. I know I am. I enjoy movies. Like, or, like, if I was not doing Movie Deputy, this is probably not a movie that I would have ever seen. But with Movie Deputy, I see the Good, the Bad, the Ugly, the A list, the B list, the no list. And I'm glad I get to experience movies such as this because they're. I. I'm still able to appreciate the story behind the gore, and sometimes that can be difficult to do, especially in these situations. But again, as always, I hope you're having as much fun as I am. Please, like, subscribe and share. And don't forget to turn on that notification bell and I will be back tomorrow with something special. Bye.
