Show Notes

Our most primal of needs is learning who we are. Where do we get that from? This dares to go there, come along for an emotional and powerful journey into the lives of the Quint family.

Original Review:

There are few things that are certain in life. One of them is simple for many, answering the question of who their parents are. This story is about one of the few amongst many (the few are more than many realize). Urban Quint, a child that was left to the care of an orphanage at a young age struggled with this seemingly simple question. As time went on, his mother came back into his life and brought him to America. Time and the truth were not on his side, instead of being able to express himself, he was forced to bottle it up as he didn't know what to do with the emotions involved. His son, David, decided that he wanted to know more about his dad's story. Only, the deeper he dug, the more frustrated others became. Years had taken their toll on the man that David simply knew as dad. Only Urban was much more than someone's dad, he was someone's son, was there even more... Who knows... Together, Urban and David traveled together to put together the missing pieces of Urban's life. Treading into the past can be a tricky path, paved with uncertainty, heartache, and pain. Pain, that could lead to healing, but only if answers can be found. An utterly emotional journey through one man's search for self (with the help of his son). Deep devotion to such a simple truth will be anything but, yet together they have the determination to see it through. To find out the conclusion to this story, check out FatherUnKNOWn.com

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hello, my friends, and welcome back. This is going to be a special episode today. If you are checking out the poster, if you are on our YouTube channel or on Rumble right now, you can see the movie that we are going to be talking about. And you may not recognize it, but that is perfectly fine. Because one of the things I always do is I say review the A list, B list, and no list. And I'll be honest, I did not get another new movie watched this weekend. So I went back into my archives and I pulled a special one. I will let you know ahead of time that this movie does have an innocent rating and also that this movie ended up on my top 10 list of 2017. So you'll just have to wait around to find out what the exact score was. But hopefully that'll create enough buzz that you'll want to hang around for the review. This story is called Father Unknown and it is a documentary. It is about David and his father Urban and Urban's quest to find out a question that is at the most basic of things that we should know or we would think we should know is who our parents are. And my review will kind of go into a little bit more of that, too. I want to share. I'll be sharing with you the original review that was on one once on moviedevity.com but something really special about this is when this movie first came out in 2017, David and his father Urban did kind of an around the country type tour where they were showcasing this movie in certain theaters. And I was lucky enough to be at the local theater when they were there. And so I had the pleasure of meeting both of these gentlemen and sitting down and having a conversation with them. And I'm after this, I'm going to be actually reaching back out to them. Fingers crossed. And maybe see if we might be able to set up something else to kind of talk about this a little bit further. Because even though the story is, oh wow, it's been eight years ago, it's still so relevant and so poignant to a lot of things that happen in life. And the what as they're sharing his story. It is so beautifully done. And it's just it. [00:02:04] Speaker A: I'm trying to find the right words, you know, me. And I won't spoil anything ever. I know spoilers here. [00:02:11] Speaker A: And I'm sure I look a little bit different than the last time David and Urban saw me. But this is their like a tagline. It says on the poster, our bravest search is for ourselves. And I think that's something that we all struggle with at least a little bit on some level. Before I kind of get into a whole lot more, I do want to go ahead and share the trailer of this movie with you. Now, mind you, the trailer is a little bit shaky. The documentary itself is not. So please don't judge it based on that. Just pay attention to the content. Trust me, it's worth it. [00:02:45] Speaker B: It's been this way for as long as I can remember. [00:02:50] Speaker B: I've tried to act like I don't feel it inside. [00:02:54] Speaker B: But I can't escape the emptiness. [00:02:58] Speaker A: How many of us can relate with that? For just even for different reasons. [00:03:06] Speaker B: I've become a man, a husband, and a father. [00:03:10] Speaker A: This is actually David, the one that's talking. This is the Urban son. And he's also the one there in the picture with the baseball cap on. [00:03:19] Speaker B: But the past consumes me, and I am obsessed with the fragments of a story about my father. [00:03:32] Speaker B: There was a castle. [00:03:35] Speaker B: Rows of beds. [00:03:38] Speaker B: There was a boy named Urban. [00:03:42] Speaker B: A letter. [00:03:44] Speaker B: From a woman. He had never met. [00:03:50] Speaker B: His mother. [00:03:55] Speaker B: The past has never been spoken about. And there's always been a distance between me and my father. [00:04:04] Speaker B: There is something hidden in the silence. [00:04:20] Speaker B: I'm trying to get some information about a person who lives in this little village in 1941. [00:04:29] Speaker B: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. [00:04:30] Speaker A: Wait a minute. [00:04:31] Speaker B: Here in Switzerland. How did I get over here? You and I are traveling together. We've been trying to figure out who your father is. [00:04:42] Speaker B: I don't know what happened. [00:04:44] Speaker A: Maybe you better just come back home. That's the end of it. You know, there's been a lot of changes for him. [00:04:50] Speaker B: I just thought it was all good. What is that? [00:04:54] Speaker A: Oh. [00:05:00] Speaker B: It's gonna be good. [00:05:22] Speaker A: Sorry. Even the trailer makes me emotional just because I can still remember this movie quite well. Back over to here, as you can see, this is the poster. I took just some a little bit creative editing with that. And this is actually the podcast image that I came up with. And so keep an eye out for this podcast image wherever the podcasts are found. If you are actively listening, you can see that for yourself. And if not, you can find us over here and at Movie Deputy on YouTube and of course on now. We are now on Rumble as well. So it's just a lot to take in with a story such as this. As you can tell, it's going to be very emotional. Urban is just. He's always wondered where his roots came from, and he struggles to connect with David because how do you know how to be a father? When you've never had one, how do you know how? I mean, we learn what we know from our parents. And so how do we carry that on if we don't know our parents? That is like one of the biggest struggles here is watching not only Urban fighting to find his roots and find out where he came from, but also David fighting to connect with his dad. Now, I use the term fighting, but I don't use that in a negative connotation. I'm using that in just that struggle of trying to build your bricks on something solid that will last. And it's just this. The story is. It mainly is about Urban, but it is a lot about David too. And it tells a lot along as. As it's going along that way. I do want to share with you the original review that was on moviedeopity.com so I just gotta get over here. There are a few things that are certain in life. One of them is simple for many, answering the question of who their parents are. This story is about one of the few amongst many. The few are more than many realize. Urban Quint, a child that was left to the care of an orphanage at a young age, struggled with this seemingly simple question. Pain that could lead to healing, but only if the answers can be found. An utterly emotional journey through one man's search for self with the help of his son. Deep devotion to such a simple truth will be anything but. Yet together, they have the determination to see it through. But to find out the conclusion to this story, check out fatherunknown.com. [00:08:42] Speaker A: Way back over here. So I have to go to. I'm just even going over to moviedebity.com myself. And once the podcasts are made, the reviews do disappear from moviedepity.com but you can find that original review in the transcript on YouTube and on. [00:09:00] Speaker A: Pretty much wherever the podcast can be found. It's in the transcript underneath there as well. So you'll be able to find that along with basically all the rest of this. So now you may be wondering, I did mention that this was on my top 10 list back in 2017, and so that was. So go. Drum roll please. I really need to get some side effects, don't I? But Father unknown got an 8.5 out of 10 on the deputy scale. Now, as you know, it's really rare for me to give score quite like that, but there are not too many stories quite like this one out there either. So I think a lot of people have stories to share. The comment that I made in the review about that there's a lot more out there than we realize and believe it or not, I'm one of them. I'm. There are answers that to my family that will never be answered because my parents are gone and the people that knew some of the answers are gone as well. And so there's just a lot of unknowns that I will never completely understand either. And so maybe that's why I connect with this movie. Maybe on a deeper level. Is that why I gave it a higher score? No, it. It really is that good. Does it have a happy ending? Maybe not in the traditional sense, but if, like I said, if you check out fatherunknown.com it will definitely be worth it. So. So I hope as always, that you know which buttons to push so you always get the latest and greatest movie Deputy content. And you may be going, wait, 2017 isn't the latest and greatest content? No, but it is a movie that you probably would have never heard of otherwise. And now you have a gem that you can look up for yourself. So this one is definitely one that you're going to want to check out. As always, I will be back soon with another adventure. I'm going to be reaching out to David and Urban, so fingers crossed and I will let you know if I know any updates on that. So until later. Take care all my friends. Bye bye.
