[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hello my friends and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews where we are going to be talking about a movie that is coming out on Christmas. Now, it's kind of unusual that you hear me talk about a movie that's opening this soon, but I wanted to kind of give you guys the heads up on this one a little bit. And so I'm gonna have a lot of fun doing this. I am giving this movie a tentative innocent rating and I'm just gonna say that because this movie is rated pg. Are you curious what movie I'm talking about? I. I am talking about the movie David done by Angel Studios. Like I said, this one is opening on Christmas. And the reason I'm giving it a tentative innocent rating on that is some of the scenes are a little intense, maybe for younger viewers, some are a little dark. I would easily Recommend this for 8 and above, but I would recommend if you're, if you have younger viewers other than that, younger than that, that they should have a parent or guardian or somebody with them to just kind of explain some of the more intense scenes that can be happening along here. Now, what. Who is this David that we're talking about? If you are familiar with the Bible story David and Goliath, then you are going to be very familiar with this, with the David that we are talking about today. But a lot of people are surprised, kind of surprised. Just basic biblical knowledge that people don't realize that the David from David and Goliath is the same David as King David and it's the same person. And what this story is, is it's his when he was initially chosen and anointed by Samuel all the way up until it gets about time for him to take over the throne. And this is most of his life story. It is his story as a shepherd, it is his story as a, as a son, as a brother, as. And it's just, it's a musical. A lot of people don't realize that, that this is a musical. And there is going to be a sing along on December 31st. So you want to make sure and mark your calendars for that as well. So if you go see this when it opens on the Christmas or if you do happen to go to one of the early screenings. Oh, I apologize. I've just noticed the poster in theaters December 19th, but there is an early screening of this on December 14th and select theaters nationwide. But like I said, this is one that you are not going to want to miss if you are a fan of like King of Kings, that story. If you're a fan of Prince of Egypt, any of those types of stories, then you are absolutely going to be enthralled by what David has to offer. Now, score wise, I'm going to tell you what that is. But we're going to wait and check out the trailer and everything for this as well. So let's hop on over and check out the trailer for this. [00:02:55] Speaker B: When the sheep scatter. [00:02:58] Speaker B: A shepherd is who they need. [00:03:06] Speaker B: That'll teach you the mess with my sheep. [00:03:11] Speaker B: Are you going to sing or what? Follow the light. [00:03:17] Speaker B: Get out. [00:03:20] Speaker A: The kings of that is King Saul that you're seeing on the screen. And the hand earring if you're on our podcast section. [00:03:28] Speaker B: The crown. [00:03:31] Speaker B: Has consumed him. [00:03:34] Speaker B: David, are you ready to be the next king? What? [00:03:41] Speaker A: No. [00:03:41] Speaker B: No. Don't mess this up for me, David. I get to be a princess. [00:03:48] Speaker A: I'm just a shepherd. [00:03:50] Speaker B: We already have a king. We will crush your kingd. Those are fighting woods. Bring out Goliath. [00:04:00] Speaker A: He's huge. [00:04:04] Speaker B: Searching for the answer in the moment, I'm afraid. Yep, we're dead. [00:04:10] Speaker A: We all know how this part of the story ends. [00:04:25] Speaker B: I told you he's brave. He is true. [00:04:29] Speaker A: No, he's so humble too. [00:04:33] Speaker B: Come on and follow the light, David. You have stolen the hearts of my people. I have never wanted the throne. Lies. What happens now? You, Saul and David fight to the best. [00:04:52] Speaker B: Asked for this. [00:04:58] Speaker B: The true battle is not against flesh and blood, but in our hearts. I'm a shepherd. What can I do but look after my sheep? [00:05:18] Speaker A: There is something really magical about a story like this when it is told like this. Now if you are not familiar with the biblical story, this movie will still make sense. There is so much going on here, you may be confused by a couple parts of it, but like I said, if you're at all familiar with the biblical childhood stories of David and Goliath and just kind of everything that goes along with that and then the mention of the shepherds in the Bible, etc. Then like I said, there is a lot to this. If you are, if you are a parent with young children or a grandparent with young grandchildren, this is one to experience with them. Maybe you haven't had a chance to share these stories with them yet. And like I said, there is just something so magical. You see the special relationship that he has with his mother and his little sister and there's a little bit of the resentment with some of the older brothers and some family drama and kind of everything that goes with that, but he is, he refuses to let that Stop him. And he refuses to not give all of the glory to our Creator. And so that really goes a long way. Now you may be thinking, wait a minute, you don't really review religious movies a whole lot. And I don't review them from the typical religious point of view that you might expect, but I do review them for what they are like. I do all of my movies. I look at them for their plot and their content. I look at the appropriateness of it, the target of it. It is a little slow at times in a story such as this and. But it's, it's absolutely gorgeous and all of the animation and everything, I don't, I don't get too hung up on the technical details, but there is really something magical about this story. So I hope that you do get a chance to come out and check this out. Like I said, this does open up this Christmas. It will be in theaters on December 19th. It will have early screenings on December 14th. And of course, the Sing along event starts on December 31st on New Year's Eve. So there is so much happening with this. Now you may be wondering, wait a minute, what's the score? You got to tell us the score. And don't worry, I'm getting to it. If I just were to pluck out just the songs of this movie. So now bear with me, this breakdown is going to be worth it. If I just had to pluck out the songs in the movie, I would probably give David an eight and a half. But I also have to look at the story and how it's told. Because of the intensity of some of the story, I probably come in around a 7ish. But because of the slow points and just some of the content, which, okay, it all does add to the story. Don't get me wrong, it all does add to the story, but there is just it. I don't know it. I don't know if it needed to have as much of the background content. It's not going to be that entertaining for the younger viewers. As an adult. I found my mind wandering my found my mind wandering just, just for a few seconds here and there. But I rewind as I didn't miss anything and went back and watched it. So I feel pretty confident at coming in with David at a solid 6.75 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. Like I said, if I rated it just on the music, I mean, I love musicals, I'm a sucker for musicals, then like I said, this easily would have had a much higher score. The music is Absolutely enthralling. And even though this is my first time watching it, I found myself starting to sing along to some of the chorus parts and everything. And it just made my heart happy. It just really did in a lot of different ways. And so I'm glad that I'm able to bring this one to you. I hope this is one that you get a chance to check out if you like the. If you think you're going to like the music and stuff like that ahead of time. I have. Every day between now and when the early screening of this starts, we're going to have a special video up on our YouTube channel. So be sure to, like, subscribe and subscribe. So you get notification notifications every time one of those videos goes live. We are going to have some of the music clips. We're going to have some extra little bonuses and stuff from the movie. So those are going to be going live after. Those are going to be going live on a daily basis after our reviews. And of course, our reviews are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday. And as always, this. This is actually going to be taking place during the first couple days of our 12 days of Christmas series, which is starting later this month. So you don't want to miss any of that as we are going to be giving away some fabulous prizes this year. So I hope you're having a lot of fun. I know I am. [00:09:52] Speaker A: So I'm trying to think if there's anything else. Oh, I almost forgot. The podcast I mentioned. Okay, this time. Thank you, Angel Studios. I actually didn't have to create the podcast image. Here, let me show you. This is the poster image we have up and here is the podcast image. This one is actually directly from angel on this. So they. They provided the perfectly square image for me to use. And so that is the image that is going to be on the podcast still. So be sure to look for that. So, as always, I hope that you're. Like I said, you're having a lot of fun on this adventure. I know I am. There's even a song called Adventure in this movie, so I hope it'll bring you a lot of joy. I know it did me and I will be back soon, my friends. Bye. Bye.
