Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews. If you can't tell by the title, we are talking about Forgotten Island.
Now you're probably going, what is Forgotten Island?
Well, this movie was not very amped up. There hasn't been a lot of promos for it. There hasn't been a lot of other stuff for it. So I went into it not knowing what to expect.
I had seen a couple previews at the theater for it, and I still really didn't know what to expect on this one at all. I was just like, what in the world is this? Obviously it's two friends, because you see some hands, you see the friendship bracelets. But what is it?
Well, this one is. There's definitely some inspiration for this one from Moana. It's not at all tied into the Disney franchise or anything like that, but there's parts of the story that you can clearly see that were inspired by Moana. And it's a lot of fun. You've got two really good friends, and this is their journey from childhood into adulthood.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: And.
[00:00:57] Speaker A: And all the stuff that kind of goes along with that with some family dynamics and with what's going to happen now that they're adults. And it's just really kind of crosses that line. So I recommend this one to maybe go see with your good friend or with a best friend. This one is just a lot of fun. It's aimed at a younger audience.
It's probably.
Okay, I need to say this.
The kind of bad person in this movie, or bad thing, it's more of a spirit type creature, is a little intense. So maybe the littles might not be. It might be a little bit too much just for something like this. Now, those of us that grew up on things like Scooby Doo and some of those other things, stuff like that wouldn't bother us. But I know that there are some younger kids that are more sensitive to things like that. So I would say the littlest of littles, maybe under the age of eight. Ish. I probably wouldn't recommend, but I'd say eight and upwards to. I'd say if you want, like, even a parent going to say this as a child or grandparent with a grandchild would probably be okay.
But it's not aimed where just adults are going to enjoy a movie such as this. Not all adults, okay? I know there's adults out there that are going to enjoy this. Or if you've watched this and you're an adult, you're like, wait, I love this movie. So I get It. I get it. There are adults out there that are going to like this, but that's not going to be every adult. There's not. There's a complex storyline, enough to keep the adults kind of following along with it, but it's still simple enough for kids to enjoy. Like I said, maybe not for the littlest of littles, but I am going to give this a tentative innocent rating. But like I said, I'm going to say maybe under the age of eight with supervision, just because some of those scenes can be a little bit intense.
But like I said, this story is about two best friends and this journey. Let's check out the trailer together.
And then, of course, we'll talk a little bit more about the movie and you will find out the score shortly.
Sorry, technical issue on my part.
[00:03:06] Speaker B: I'm Jo.
[00:03:06] Speaker A: I'm Lysa.
[00:03:09] Speaker B: Do you want to be best friends? Cool.
Let's make it official.
Sorry, I can't do a blood oath.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: I'm not a psycho.
[00:03:18] Speaker B: I've never had a best friend before. Me neither. Let's go.
We're gonna be best friends forever, right?
Forever. And.
You don't have to go all the way to the US for school. It's what my parents want. It shouldn't be their choice. It's your life.
But, hey, we made some good memories.
Mara, something's happening. No way.
Hold on.
Where are we?
The Forgotten island is a dangerous place. The longer you're here, the more memories you'll forget. We would forget everything, Even each other.
This is our entire friendship.
We gotta find our way back home. Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't. You don't. You don't want. You forget about me.
We're running out of time.
Hey, hey, it's okay. Listen to me, Raisa, I just have one question for you. Who let the dogs out?
[00:05:09] Speaker A: No, not right now.
[00:05:10] Speaker B: Come on.
[00:05:11] Speaker A: Answer the question.
[00:05:13] Speaker B: Let the dog sound.
Okay.
[00:05:20] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:05:21] Speaker B: We need a game plan.
[00:05:26] Speaker A: And that was one of the. One of the many cute moments in this movie is Raisa is having a panic attack and Joe comes up towards who let the dogs out? To encourage her to breathe. Who, who, who, who?
So if you're having a panic attack or something, that's kind of a cute little thing to kind of help get your brain off of it. Of who, who, who, who? I don't think I ever would have thought of the song who let the dogs out? And get thought of it in that context before, but this was definitely a very cute moment in this movie. Now, in this one, Jo has grown up with her grandmother, and her grandmother told her stories of when she was younger, and she got. She found this magical portal key, and it took her to this magical island.
Well, ever since Jo heard these stories, she wanted to reenact all of these things that her grandmother had told her about. And her ultimate dream was to find this island. And then, as when she became best friends with Raisa, they both wanted to find this island. And when their lives are about to go separate ways because they're all grown up, they finally have the chance to go to this island. And what happens when they go there changes everything.
For their past, their present, their future, just kind of changes everything for them now in that they are put into moments of peril, and they are put into this thing where their memories are in jeopardy. Now, you know me. No spoilers ever. But they learned that in order to get home or in order to accomplish the things that they need to accomplish, that they are going to lose some of that, as you can kind of see in the trailer or even here in the trailer, how that all plays out. Like I said, it's a little bit intense for the littlest of littles, but it's a very moving, very inspirational story on a lot of different levels. Like I said, I'm giving this a tentative innocent rating on that. But there is so much to enjoy here. There is so much fun with these friendship bracelets, with all this. And then I've noticed that a lot of the theaters, like amc, Regal, Marcus, Cinemark, all those. There's different collectible things that each one of them have for this movie. And there's always a lot of different things for, like, these. For certain big titles, but for a smaller title. I was really surprised that there was so much promo merchandise for this one. So I hope you'll get a chance to kind of check some of that out. If you don't immediately see it, make sure if you go to see this in the theaters, that you ask about some of the things that they might or might not have.
But ultimately, this is the ultimate story of friendship. And just.
I always have say, well, this is kind of like my own personal thing, but life is about making memories, because in the end, that's all we really leave behind. Like, no matter what you leave somebody in, like, a physical sense, what you leave with, what the memories that you leave them with, those are the things that are really going to remain.
And so this whole movie is about memories, and I just love that on a whole different level, so score wise, you're probably wondering where I'm at on this.
I think I'm gonna surprise a few of you. I'm coming in with Forgotten island at a 6.25 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. Now, you know me, when it comes to animated movies, I tend to be a little bit harsher, especially when it's aimed at Littles and stuff like that. I was so appreciative that there was no like, woke stuff or anything like that in this. And I just. I wasn't sure the direction it was going to go at first. I'm like, okay, please don't go in this direction. And it didn't. I. I would say that this one, like I said it, really surprised me on a lot of different levels. So if this is one that you've been debating on seeing, if you've been debating about taking your Littles to, I hope that this helps. If you want to wait till it comes out and, like, watch it at home with your kiddos and stuff like that, of course, that's cool too. But again, I'm giving this a tentative innocent rating and I am giving this a 6.25 out of 10 on the Deputy scale.
