[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hello my friends and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews where we are talking about a movie that is opening up today. So I hope you are excited. I had a chance to see this yesterday with my favorite posse member, my better half. And so we both had a little bit different perspectives on this movie. But this review is going to be a little bit different. You know me, no spoilers ever. But I could not help as this movie was playing out of thinking of a music video and the parallels and okay, prior to the movie it ends with us. I had never heard of Colleen Hoover. You're thinking, wait, you're a chick. She writes chick flicks. I I had honestly never even heard of her. And then it ends with us came out and then regretting you and neither one were I more they were far from spectacular. They were decent stories. I mean some flaws man. One I gave mid fives, one I gave a six. So far of the ones that I've seen this is probably the best of the ones that I've seen so far. I don't know what are the ones that she has but reminders of him. And I keep calling this reminders of you. So if I do say that, I apologize. I don't know why. For some reason it just that reminders of you keeps popping in my head when the name of the movie is Reminders of Him and the reminders of the story is reminders of him. Now as you can imagine, yes, this is a chick flick. There are, there is some content in here that I am going to be giving reminders of him or I am or not. I'm going to be. I am giving reminders of him a guilty rating because of some drug stuff that's shown on screen and some mild nudity, things like that. Just stuff that may not be the most appropriate. And then also it's a pretty heavy subject matter, the one that we're dealing with with this show today. So if you are a fan of Colleen Hoover, this is probably one that you're not going to want to miss. Now I always give this disclaimer. I never read the books. I the movies have to stand alone on their own. So I never compare them to the books. And that's really hard for a lot of people to understand. It's like how can you review the movie if you've never seen the book? I review the movie because I review the movie. I'm not reviewing the movie how it compares to the book. I am just looking at the movie how it is by itself. So some people go, but you can't do that. That's not fair. Whoever said it was going to be fair? I mean, come on. Now, you may be noticing if you are on our channel here, that we are starting with the podcast image and I will show you why. The podcast image is that the poster? I literally just squared it off. It's pretty simple on that. Now, let me get back to the podcast and make sure. There we go. Hit the wrong thing on my keyboard there. But, yeah, I, of course I'm going to share with you the trailer, as I always do, and then I, I'm going to share a Rascal Flatts music video with you as well. And fans of Colleen Hoover might recognize some of the. What's going on in the music video. I don't know if she was inspired by Rascal Flatts or if this is a pure coincidence or just this whole idea of the story is so commonplace in storytelling that they just happen to share the similarities. So I am not saying that there's any. That there's any connection between Colleen Hoover and Rascal Flats. I am not saying that at all. I'm just saying the similarities between the two stories are undeniable. So if you have not seen this video yet, you're going to want to hang around, because even if you're not a fan of country music in general and you are a fan of hers or you're a fan of this movie or wanted to check this one out, you. You'll recognize the unmistakable parallels between this music video and the movie. And if you watch this before the movie, don't worry, of course, no spoilers ever. But if you've watched, if you watch, get through this whole episode with me and you pay attention. You're listening to the music video here. And then you watch the movie, you'll understand why I shared that as well. [00:04:06] Speaker B: So. [00:04:06] Speaker A: So we're gonna jump right in first and foremost with the movie review or with. Sorry, the movie trailer. Sorry, wrong word. Just that. [00:04:20] Speaker C: Do you want bag? [00:04:21] Speaker D: Oh, no, it's fine. [00:04:23] Speaker E: Come back soon. [00:04:24] Speaker D: If you insist. [00:04:26] Speaker A: You know, you come back more than one at a time. [00:04:28] Speaker D: I'm just working up the courage to ask you out. [00:04:35] Speaker C: There was before, There was during you. I never thought there would be an after you. [00:04:54] Speaker A: Now, if you can't gather. Yes, like I said, this is a chick flick. This is a very emotional movie. You're going to want your tissues just because this one, it takes you through a gamut of emotions that you will. You will laugh, you're going to feel like crying. It's Going to put a knot in your gut. And at the same time, it might upset you all at the same time. [00:05:18] Speaker D: This court sentences you to seven years incarceration. [00:05:26] Speaker F: Hopeless. Hallelujah. [00:05:30] Speaker E: Do you happen to be hiring? [00:05:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:32] Speaker E: We can't take folks with the record. [00:05:36] Speaker A: What's your trauma? [00:05:36] Speaker C: I can't get a job because I just got out of prison. [00:05:39] Speaker B: Shit. [00:05:39] Speaker A: You win. [00:05:40] Speaker E: Ye me the hell turn this bookstore into a bar. [00:05:49] Speaker C: Do you guys need help? [00:05:51] Speaker D: Do you know how to wash dishes? [00:05:52] Speaker C: Seven years experience. [00:05:54] Speaker D: Okay, not gonna ask you to expand on that. [00:05:57] Speaker A: Now, those that watch the movie will catch an obvious error between this particular scene and what's actually in the film. I won't spoil it for you. [00:06:09] Speaker B: Hey. [00:06:10] Speaker F: How'd you know I lived here? [00:06:11] Speaker C: I'm not here to see you. I need to see my daughter. [00:06:14] Speaker F: You're hurt. [00:06:15] Speaker B: Go. [00:06:16] Speaker F: Scotty was my best friend. When he died, we all came together to raise a little girl. [00:06:21] Speaker E: How dare she just show up. [00:06:22] Speaker A: If it wasn't for her, our son [00:06:23] Speaker B: would still be alive. [00:06:25] Speaker F: Coming back was a mistake. [00:06:28] Speaker A: I just. [00:06:29] Speaker E: I want to meet the human that Scotty and I made on the edge of your. Why are you here? [00:06:38] Speaker G: This is gonna make it so much worse. We can't. [00:06:42] Speaker D: Well, I just hope you do the right thing. It was the right thing. No, no, I just hope you do it. [00:06:49] Speaker F: We've all been wrong about her. You've taken the worst moment of her life and made it into who she is. [00:06:59] Speaker E: Do you hate me? [00:07:01] Speaker D: I've gone from hating you to want [00:07:03] Speaker F: in the whole world for you. [00:07:16] Speaker C: I should probably go. [00:07:19] Speaker D: You should probably stay. [00:07:21] Speaker H: Oh, my, my, oh, my, my love. [00:07:28] Speaker A: And I just caught that. There is. Even that last scene in the trailer is quite a bit different from what we see on the screen. I hate when they. When the. When they, like, tease us like that with something like that. It's just like, oh, my goodness, what in the world were they thinking when they give us one scene in the trailer and then they change the scene for the movie? I'm like, okay, did they refilm this? But they just didn't want to recut the trailer. Wow. That was the movie trailer. But hang with me. Like I said, I'm going to share this music video and you'll. There are definitely parallels, though the stories are a bit different there. I. Like I said, I don't know if she was inspired by this, but it's kind of unmistakable to catch on to the similarities. I know it starts out kind of slow. Just bear with it and bear with me. It's worth It. I promise. [00:08:31] Speaker G: So true. So true. You did it. You made him leave. I hate you. [00:08:47] Speaker B: Say it. [00:08:48] Speaker G: Say you hate him. [00:08:49] Speaker B: Say it. Why? [00:09:21] Speaker H: I can take the rain on the roof of this sand empty house that don't bother me I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while Even though going on with you gone still upsets me There are days every now and again I pretend I'm okay But that's not what gives me what hurts [00:09:51] Speaker B: the most Was being so close and having so much to say and my sweet walk away and never know when [00:10:08] Speaker H: could have been and not seeing that loving you Is what I was trying to do. [00:10:23] Speaker B: What's wrong? [00:10:29] Speaker H: Is it your dad? [00:10:31] Speaker B: No. No. [00:10:39] Speaker E: Do you ever think about the future? What do you see? [00:10:50] Speaker D: What do you see? [00:10:53] Speaker E: I'm serious. [00:10:57] Speaker D: You. I see you. What do you see? [00:11:20] Speaker H: It's hard to deal with the pain of losing you Everywhere I go But I'm doing it it's hard to force that smile When I see our old friends and I'm alone Still harder getting up, getting dressed Living with this regret But I know if I could do it over I would trade give away all the words that I say in my heart that I left up for [00:11:47] Speaker B: him what hurts the most he's been so close and having so much to say and watching you walk away and never knowing what could have been and [00:12:10] Speaker H: I've seen that loving you is what I was trying you. [00:12:47] Speaker B: Watching you and never knowing what could win and I seen that loving you [00:13:01] Speaker H: is what I was trying to do [00:13:05] Speaker B: Now I'm seeing that loving you that's [00:13:09] Speaker H: what I was trying to do [00:13:16] Speaker B: oh, [00:13:28] Speaker G: I saw you. I saw you. [00:13:41] Speaker A: So with this book of Colleen Hoover's, here we have Kenna. And she and Scotty fall in love. Even if you're not familiar with the story. Don't worry, I'm not spoiling anything. And he is planning on proposing to her on a very specific day for both of them. And so they go out and they're celebrating. And on their way back to town, something happens. And unfortunately, Scotty is lost. Of course, like I said, no spoilers. If you're familiar with the story at all, or even if you're not, well, then McKenna doesn't learn until afterwards that she's pregnant and there's all of these different things going on. And so she goes to prison because of what happened to Scotty. And when she gets out of prison, she goes back to their hometown because she had the baby while in jail. And of course, you don't get to keep your babies when you're in jail. So the baby goes to live with Scotty's parents and they adopt the little girl. And what happens with that? And so she comes back to the town, except she can't get a fresh start because not only is she a felon now, but she's also the person responsible for what happened to Scotty. And so the people in the town don't want to forgive her. She doesn't want to forgive herself. The family can't forgive her. And as she's trying to get a fresh start, the person that ends up trying to give her a foothold to kind of get her going again turns out to be Scotty's best friend. And the rest of that is kind of history of kind of what happens with that. Like I said, no spoilers ever. You can kind of figure out from the poster maybe what happens with some of that, but it very much mimics, like I said, the pieces of the song or a lot of ideas of the song as it goes through it. Now, this movie is very emotional. You're going to have the gamut of highs and lows. It's going to make you laugh, it's going to make you cry. It's very much a chick flick through and through. I mean, it's undeniable. It's not one of those movies on the edge of your seat where you're just waiting to see what's going to happen next. But it's not one that you want to have to get up and use the bathroom for either. There's something in each of the scenes as it's going on. And there you will definitely root for some of the characters more so than others, and you can't help but fall in love with some of them. Personally, I fell in love with Ivy. And you will learn who Ivy is, but knowing, I mean, especially with T shirts like this, or let me straighten out here and shout out to city the kitty. But Ivy, I quickly stole my heart for other reasons on that. So if you're a crazy cat lady or crazy cat lover, there are definitely scenes of this one that you're going to like. But yeah, back to the story, of course. Yeah, she's in Laramie and she's trying to get her fresh start. And like, there's so many things going on in this story and there's so many mixed emotions because this whole thing is about that basically everybody deserves a second chance. And the thing is, should you really be defined by the worst moment of your life. That really depends on what that worst moment was, who the responsible party was. It depends on a lot of different factors. So it's like the whole second chances. Everybody, everybody deserves a whole second chance. But the thing is, not everybody does deserve a second chance. It, like I said, it depends completely on the situation. I've dealt with some things personally that yeah, there's just some people I can't give a second chance to just because of what happened and even things similar to this in a completely different way. But yeah, it really kind of rides in just that edge. My Felix said my favorite posse member was probably going to write this mid sevens because I asked him like, okay, what would you give it on the rates on the deputy scale? And he's very familiar with the deputy scale for obvious reasons. And honestly I just, I just couldn't with some of the scenes and just some of the predictability of the story and just some inserts in there now I will say I was very, very happy to see there is nothing woke in this movie. It is not woke at all. So it is just, it is a very sweet, heartbreaking, heart wrenching, heartwarming movie kind of all in one. And so you're probably wondering where I came in on the deputy scale. With the deputy scale. I'm coming in with reminders of him instead of reminders of you. I keep saying reminders of you for some reason, looking at the poster reminders of him. I am giving it a 6.75 on the Deputy scale. So definitely not a bad score by any means. If you are a fan of Colleen Hoover, if you are a fan of the other stories, this, this is probably the best of the three that have become movies so far. So like I said, if you were at all a fan of any of this, this is one that you are not going to want to miss. I thank you for coming along with me on this adventure. This one we kind of went a little bit off the rails with the whole music video, but like I said, if you're familiar with the story, the music video will definitely you'll. You can put the two and two together and if you're not familiar with the story and you can watch the music video, like I said, it won't spoil anything. But then when you watch the movie, you'll definitely be able to tie the two pieces together of like what my thought process was on that. So if you haven't done so already, please click subscribe and make sure you turn on that notification bell. To get the latest and the greatest Movie Deputy content. I know we're running a little bit long on today's show, but I hope that you have had as much fun with this as I have. And as always, I will be back soon with another movie for you. And no, I have not forgotten about screaming 3. I goofed and didn't get to see it when it was in the theater. So I've got to. I think it's just now available on Instant Video, so I will be watching that and getting that to you in order. So until later, guys. Bye.
