[00:00:00] Hello once again, and welcome back. As we are delving into another deep interrogation of a movie that is more than a little controversial. The one we are talking about today is tarot. Now, this movie is automatically going to be having a much more limited audience just because of the subject matter, because even there's a lot of people that even like horror movies and stuff like that that will not watch movies regarding Tarot, astrology, ouija, all of that stuff because of the negative connotations with it and the demonic stuff that is associated with that. But there is so much more to these movies than that. And I try to go a little bit deeper to bring you this information on these movies. Now, if this is your first time here and you're wondering what you landed on, this is the movie deputy reviews podcast brought to you by the one, the only movie deputy me. So I have operated movie deputy for ten years and we switched to this podcast format. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I hope you are as well. So I love bringing movies to you in a way that maybe tries to help identify its target audience and kind of the direction that it's going with that.
[00:01:19] With Tarot, it's not your typical type, one of these movies. It is, but it isn't. And with this, we have a bunch of college age friends who have gone to like an Airbnb for the weekend to celebrate a birthday. And while exploring the house, they run across a set of really old, really ancient tarot cards. Well, the one gal, she's really into astrology and tarot and all of this. And I don't want to go, before I go any further, this movie definitely has a guilty rating just because they're, I'll get into that. But this is a def, this one definitely has guilty full on on that one. But this one gal, she is doing the, the readings for kind of all of her friends, and she's doing these tarot readings based on their astrology signs and how it all ties into them and how it ties into their pieces of their personality. Well, as the movie plays out, things start to happen to these people, and it's like she's the one that did the readings, was able to almost foretell the fate based on the cards. And so a lot of the things that are going on with the cards end up happening to these people. And so one by one, her friends are dealing with this. And like I said, it's really dark. It's really foreboding. It's really, I will say, I mean, this one, I don't know if I would go so far as to say scary. I'm sure for some people it might be scary, but it's jump scares. There's. There's a lot of the ones that it'll just. The stuff that catches the off guard makes you go, or just. Just kind of catches. It's like you don't quite expect the timing. And so that's almost redeeming on a movie such as this, at least the way that this one is done. This, I don't, don't focus on all the Hollywood gobbledygook, but the costumes and the special effects and the makeup.
[00:03:16] Some of the creatures we see in this movie are full on Creepshow. And there's just enough shadows and just enough lighting that this one is going to be pure nightmare fuel for some people, because there are some people who are really sensitive to stuff like that. And this one's just really dark. And this one, it also really links into the whole thing that ties astrology and tarot together, because there really are a lot of similarities in how they are looked at and how they are discussed and how the cards fit in with different signs of the zodiac.
[00:03:55] It's just. It's very complicated, but at the same time, it's almost explained pretty well in this. See, you don't necessarily. It's like, okay, you kind of know what's going to happen, but at the same time, you don't. And they end up reaching out to somebody very unlikely, somebody who did for some help on this. And when they do, the movie seems to have so much promise until it's kind of wrapping itself up and then it almost leads into. It's almost an anticlimactic ending. It has. It satisfies the story, but it's like, okay, it builds you up throughout the whole movie, and then it's just kind of like, it's a simple ending. And this is like, okay, are they leading into more? Are we gonna see more of these characters or more of these movies? Or is this the end? Is this. This what the.
[00:04:46] Are they just gonna leave it at this? I don't know. Um. You're probably wondering what score I gave this. Now, Tara, like I said, it was building, and it was actually looking really, really promising for at least a little bit. So. But like I said, the ending is somewhat anticlimactic. Like, it's a satisfactory ending, don't get me wrong. But it's just, it almost, like I said, it's almost a disappointment with the way the movie builds. You up all the way through it to that point.
[00:05:16] So ultimately, I mean, I have to look at the whole story. I have to look at everything. There. There were a few obvious flaws, but it wasn't anything that distracted the story. So Tarot is getting just a simple six out of ten on the deputy scale, which for being this type of movie, is maybe a little generous. I was really debating between like five, seven five and a six just because of some of the errors in the movie. But then I was talking to some people after it and it was just.
[00:05:43] They didn't necessarily notice the same things I did. And I didn't want to just focus on stuff that I notice if other people are going to notice it and if it doesn't take away from the story or doesn't weaken kind of what's going on to that level. So, like I said, ultimately this movie does have a very guilty rating. It is aimed probably mostly at college age kids, maybe young adults. This one is definitely not going to be one for younger audiences. And those Gen X and olders might find it almost a bit boring at times, but for that target audience, this one definitely has a focus.
[00:06:26] I apologize. Got something in my throat there. But I. Yeah, like I said, I just. I wanted more from the ending. And so I'm almost wondering if there will be more to this to come. But I guess we'll have to wait and see. Of course, if you want to always get the latest and greatest movie deputy content, you know which buttons to push. And as always, I will be back soon. Bye.
