[00:00:00] Hello and welcome back to another episode of movie Deputy Reviews, where we are going even deeper into a new release movie this morning. I hope you are ready for a.
[00:00:12] How do I want to put this? For an adventure that is almost beyond humanity in a way. Now, do you have any idea which one I'm talking about? I hope so. If you hadn't had a chance, we talked about the three previous movies to this one. A couple weeks ago, we did Rise of the Planet of the Apes, dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War of the Planet of the Apes, or for the. And I know I messed up those titles a little bit, but today we are talking about Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. And this one just really.
[00:00:48] I don't. I don't know what I was expecting, but this one is definitely different from what I was expecting. It is important that I give this one a guilty rating right off the top, not because of any particular thing, but just generally the whole feeling and sense of the movie. There's a few scenes that are a bit more than intense, nothing that's overly gory or dramatic. But honestly, I think the worst word said in the whole movie is the s word. And that one's almost humorous when it is said. And of course, you know me, no spoilers ever. But this one actually picks up right at Caesar's death at the end of war. And if you're not familiar at all with the movies, don't worry, that's not. I mean, it's a whole thing with the movies, so that's not really a spoiler on that at all.
[00:01:41] But then it tells you that many generations later, and so we see how far the apes have come, and we know that with the virus and everything that happened, that apes grew more intelligent and learned the ability to speak and how to process information, and that over time, humans lost those abilities. Humans became very primitive and actually lost the ability to speak as well. And so as society has progressed with that, the apes and humans, did, they live completely apart from one another. And the apes actually refer to the humans as echo. I'm not sure why it really explains that in the movie, but they're referred to as Echo. And it's just they're living two completely different lives. And society has had a complete breakdown. Like, if you've ever watched that show on history, it's like, what would happen if civilization stopped to ceased existing? And where you see, like all the plants and everything take over the buildings and the cities and basically nature reclaiming itself. And so that's kind of what you're seeing a little bit here. But that's not really the point of this story. This story is, it's, how do I want to put this without spoiling anything? You see this one clan of apes that has Caesar's descendants in it, and they are, they're very much bird people of sorts. And it shows something in the very beginning of the movie that is almost, not even almost, it's very controversial. It has to do with the eggs of eagles. And just, there are protected species and all of this in, in art, in real life, but in the movie, that's not what's happening. And so what they're doing in the movie can be seen as very controversial. And it's just very. It's going to be upsetting to some. Now, they don't injure. They don't injure the eagles. That's not what's going on. But they train them to kind of be almost like a falconer would do, except these are with golden eagles, and they're just beautiful, fabulous, just majestic birds.
[00:03:45] And they basically, they bond with them. And so that's the beginning part of this journey that we get to see. But then this other clan of apes comes in and they end up coming across these because of an echo that has wandered into the land. And this echo, she's unlike other humans of her time. She's actually intelligent. She can speak, she can function. And the one clan of apes wants to control her and stop her. And the other clan of apes doesn't really understand what really was even going on. And so it ends up in a full grown battle between ape and ape, almost like the Caesar versus coda type fights that we saw in the earlier movies.
[00:04:30] And it's just both sides are fighting in the name of Caesar, and they think they're both representing Caesar, and they think they're both standing for what Caesar believed in, but in different ways. And so it's like, okay, which, which one would align more with what Caesar's things were with that? It's like, okay, would he want them to go down this path and pursue this, or would he want them to do this and follow this entirely different path? And this one really kind of delves into that. And it almost gets. There's a couple lines in this movie where this one does what none of the other ones do. It really, it's borderline getting political. There's a couple lines in the movie that they almost don't fit with the story. They almost seem out of place, almost like it was. It's like, okay, well, you must put this in the movie and you must word it like this. Like, oh, but we don't want to. It's going to take away from the story, and I'm just purely paraphrasing this, but that's kind of what it feels like because there's a couple lines that are just like white. It's like, okay, that doesn't fit. So how does that work? But basically, this one clan of the x does get the human and they take her back to this stronghold that they have built, and they are trying to get into a military installation. And I'm not going to go into a lot of the details on that because that would be major spoilers. But the things that are in this installation could totally change the future for either apes or for man. And in the whole process of this, apes have learned what they have learned through the world around them, but they have, and they have learned to adapt. They have learned to cook and how to preserve food and just the really basic instincts of survival, but they have not learned the. What is in the books, what we have in the books and the things that they are seeing. They're learning that those little symbols, what we call the Alphabet, has meaning. And they're learning that there's so much more to the world than what they seem to understand.
[00:06:30] And then they start to realize the world outside of this world and, like, what's beyond there.
[00:06:37] And one of them gets a glimpse of something special through this tube of light. And it is just. It's.
[00:06:46] How do I want to put it?
[00:06:48] It almost gives you goosebumps because you just feel that energy of the whole recognizing that there's something out there bigger than what is understood.
[00:06:58] And so it carries on with that. And what we see is the whole man versus ape. And it comes down to, where does man belong? Where does ape belong?
[00:07:09] The apes don't want to go back to living in the cages and being subservient to men, but the men don't want to continue being subservient to the apes either. So where does this lead? Like I said, this one crosses that line just a little bit and maybe does a little bit, tries to do a little bit too much for a movie such as this. This, I want to say this keeps you on the edge of your seat, but unfortunately, not quite.
[00:07:36] It is action packed at times. It is edge of your seat at times. It is fully engrossing you into the movie at times. But as a whole, I think they just tried to put too much into it. So where does that leave humanity? Where does that leave the apes? And is this the end of the story or will we see more?
[00:07:59] I, for one, don't know. I don't know if we want to know at this point. I mean, we do, but we don't.
[00:08:05] After the. After the movie was all done and the credits were all done, me and a bunch of other people were still sitting in the theater and we were sitting there. We were waiting for a bonus scene. Because the way it ends, it's like, okay, is that it?
[00:08:19] Wait, there's got to be more. And there's no bonus scene. So that almost hints to the fact that there could be more to this movie. And like I said, like, it leaves you kind of going, okay, you can't end it there. It's like it just leaves you hanging, leaves you just going, what? I mean, of course you're exhilarated up to. Right up to that point and where they. Where they ended. It's just like, okay.
[00:08:51] And I know I wasn't the only person thinking this. I talked to a few of the people that were leaving the movie, and they're like, that ending was both fulfilling and weird. It was how one guy put it. I really liked that. It was both fulfilling and weird. And then another gal just said. She goes, I wanted more. And I thought that was just that basically how it was resonating with me. I wanted more. And I wanted to understand more of the stories of with the birds and I wanted to understand the story with the humans. And I wanted to understand, it's okay, how. What's going on with the virus. And I wanted to understand, like, what exactly is happening? And there is a really key piece that this echo retrieves from this area, and it kind of answers some questions, but it creates even more.
[00:09:41] So if you decide to go see this, just be prepared. It's going to answer a lot of questions from the other movies. You're going to see how the story progresses, but this one almost feels like it should be a filler movie between a couple really satisfying movies. Okay. I gave the very first I. Rise of the dawn of. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I gave a six and a half. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, I gave a six. War of the Planet of the Apes, I gave a six and a quarter. So you're probably wondering where I'm at on this with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. I'm only coming in at a 5.75 out of ten just because, like I said, they tried to do too much if they had just focused on a portion of the story versus the other, unfortunately, we kind of would have ended up in the same spot. So I can't tell say it would have been a different outcome because there's part of it that you need to understand, but it's not really enough to kind of go oh, wow with and okay, not every movie is going to be oh, wow, but this is the kind of movie you just want a little bit more out of. So if you are a fan of the movies, definitely go see this. This is one that you definitely need to fill in the gaps and to continue the story and to add to it and just seeing where everything goes and to see the difference. Like I said, the biggest thing is that both sides are fighting in the name of Caesar. And how that plays out is, I think, the most important part of this story.
[00:11:10] So I hope, if nothing else, that you take something away from that, at least in this. Like I said, just try not to focus on the stuff that is was almost forced into the movie. It was almost forced into the dialogue that almost doesn't fit. So, like I said, I hope this helps. Of course, if you always want to get the latest and greatest movie deputy content, you know which buttons to push at the end of this movie. It did say in memory of Mana Darville. I don't know if I'm going to be pronouncing that correctly at all, but I always like to include that as well. But until tomorrow, I will be back with another new release for you and I will talk to you soon. Bye.
