I know you've missed these reviews, and this movie is powerful enough I had to come back to share this with you.

Stories like this don't come around very often, so it was worth it to bring this to you.

I've been away on a medical leave, I'm hoping to be back soon.

[00:00:00] Hello, once again. And I am at least temporarily back. Where have I been, you may wonder. Those closest to me know that story, but those listening probably do not. I have actually been on a bit of a medical leave. I suffered an accident back on January 25th that really has impacted my life a lot. And I'm still healing from that. I'm still gonna need a couple more skin grafts and some other things. I am okay. I've still got a long road ahead of me, and so I am going with that. But you may be wondering, why am I back for today? Well, that is because I am here to tell you about a fabulous movie that is opening today and it is opening nationwide today. So I wanted to get this review up for you so that you could know whether or not if this is one that you wanted to see. And honestly, I kind of hope so. I really do. And you may be wondering, the movie that I'm talking about, I'm going to be getting to that. But this is a movie that focuses around Easter. And what is it that we celebrate on Easter? Well, those of the Christian faith know the answer to that question, those who do not, as we celebrate the death, burial and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And so the movie that we are going to be talking about today centers around that. Now, you may find it hard to believe, but it has been nearly 30 years since the last big Jesus centered movie came out. And that was the Passion of the Christ. And that was many years ago. It's hard to believe it's been that many years ago, actually. But this one is done in an animated style. And so, you know, maybe you've been wanting to have that conversation with your children about Easter and about Jesus. [00:01:59] And if you're not an active churchgoer, or sometimes even if you are, maybe this is a story that you're familiar with, but you're not comfortable necessarily sharing all the details of it. Or maybe you have a child that is like going, oh, but that's an old story, Mom. That's an old story, Dad. I want something new. I want something exc. [00:02:21] Well, believe it or not, you're gonna get all that and more. You see, the movie that we're talking about today is called the King of Kings. It's from Angel Studios. And this is the story of Jesus through the mind of Charles Dickens. [00:02:42] Now, you may think that's a contradiction in and of itself, but there is just something special about this. You see, you have Charles Dickens and his family, and his son is obsessed with King Arthur and the Knights of the round table and the daring sword fights and the action and the adventure and Lancelot and everything that goes along with that. [00:03:07] And his dad wants to talk to him about Jesus and he's like, but Dad, I want something exciting. I want something with kings. [00:03:17] His dad is about. This story is about the most powerful king of all time, the king of kings, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. [00:03:31] Now, I know probably at this point I'm losing a few of my listeners if you're not of that faith, but just even if you're not hanging with me, don't give up quite so easily. I do want to say that even with all of the content of this being, those that know the story of Jesus know what happened and everything, but this is not overly so to where it is not safe for young kids. It's not that at all. This is perfectly innocent for all ages, whether you are one or a hundred and one or even outside of those realms. [00:04:05] There is just. There's something here for everybody. And it's got the. The classic retelling and it's got him going where Charles is going back and forth telling the story of Jesus and how Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem and the birth in the manger and Jesus's growth and the miracles that he performed, the rise of Lazarus from the dead, healing the blind, just all of this and the washing of the feet, just everything. But it also talks about the betrayal of Jesus and how he knew that one of his followers would betray him. And he calls them out for it. He's like, I know you will betray me three times before this day is over. [00:04:51] And of course the disciple is like, oh, I would never do that to you. I could never deny you. But of course, those familiar with the story know what happened. And I won't give that away if you're not familiar with it, but this is that story. It is the story of Jesus, like I said, through the mind of Charles Dickens. Now, of course, there were a few creative liberties taken with the biblical story, but not so far that it does any disjustice to the story whatsoever. There were a couple times when I couldn't help but catch myself just kind of, just a slight eye roll. It's like, okay, did they really need to put that in there? But it's not anything to the point of just wherever it takes away from the movie. It's just. Being a critic myself, I'm more harsh than a lot of people would be watching a story such as this. Now, you may be wondering the score that I am Giving the King of Kings now just the biblical story as it is of Jesus, of his birthday, birth, his life, his death and his resurrection. If I take it away from the movie, it's like that probably, that's probably about the closest to a perfect score I could ever get. But the movie itself, that's a little bit of a different category there. [00:06:15] Just taking into account everything that I do with Movie Deputy and the Deputy scale, which if you are not familiar with it, you can hear my podcast about that over on our Movie Deputy channel or you can check it out on the about [email protected] it has more a detailed scale of our rating system. We have a 1 through 10. I will never give a movie a 10 because there's no such thing as a perfect movie and I will never give a zero for the same reason. So I hope that you bear with me through that. [00:06:50] Forgive me if I'm taking a few deep breaths. This is the first time I sat upright for even just a few minutes like this at a time without being able to move my leg around a whole lot. If you haven't been able to tell by that comment, the injury is to my leg, but like I said, that's still healing. But the score that I am giving King of Kings, I am Giving this a 7.5 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. Now you may be wondering why I didn't give it a higher score than that. And that's. I want to touch on that just a little bit with it being a seven. It is an incredible story. It is memorable, but the plot has some questionable content. Now if you know the story of Jesus and you are a firm believer, there is nothing questionable at all about this story. But if you are not of this faith, you may find some of these things in the story difficult. Now there are still things to take away and still things to enjoy. Even if you are not of the Christian faith. This is a movie, like I said, it is for everyone. And so I encourage you to go out and watch this. This is. There is just something magical about stories such as this. And taking such a well known biblical story, I mean basically the new. This is the story of the New Testament as a lot of it, because it's talking about the life of Jesus. [00:08:18] And you take that and then you combine it with the ideas of Charles Dickens and you find a way to explain it in an entertaining, exciting, exhilarating way to a young child who seems to be more invest. Personally invested in superheroes and just a whole other side of it where Jesus this is a way that Jesus can be brought to these children and in the exciting way that so many other distractions are that are taking up their minds, are doing this is basically doing that with Jesus. And it's making it more relatable, more accessible. And it can create conversation for anyone from the youngest all the way up to the oldest and everywhere in between. This story will create conversations and it will create in depth questions. And doing so will not only strengthen these strengthen the faith in these people, but it will also help an entire generation or multiple generations learn more about Jesus than they ever could have imagined. [00:09:38] So like I said, get out and check this one out. It opens today nationwide in the United States. So please go check this out. If you have not done so already, please like and subscribe for the Movie Deputy content that I am bringing to you.
