Show Notes

A complicated love story that is for a select audience. Those who have fallen in love with the book may be able to get more out of this than someone going just for the film itself. The story jumps around, the characters (though relatable) are complicated and the story can't help itself when it references multiple progressive and woke ideas.

[00:00:00] Hello once again and welcome back to Chaos. That is movie deputy reviews. Today is Monday, and what a day we are starting off on. This is just, this is gonna be a fun week. We've got Halloween, we've got all this other stuff. And unfortunately, I'm not jumping in with you here on this Monday with a movie that is necessarily gonna make your day. Now, mind you, you may have seen this movie and you may absolutely love this movie purely based on the book. And if this is your first time to Moby Daffodil reviews, I want to say welcome. If this is not your first time here, you've probably heard me mention many times, I never read the books. I only see the movies. So if you want to go on and you want to send me a message saying that doesn't fit with the book, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, you are more than welcome to. [00:00:54] But yeah, I never, ever read the movies. So I only go see or never read the movies. I don't read the book. You can tell it's Monday, can't you? [00:01:05] But I am jumping right into a movie that is getting a lot of fanfare right now. And I am talking about we live in time. [00:01:15] Now, that title fits this book maybe a little bit more than I was realizing that it was going to. And I want to say right off hand, I'm going to go ahead and tell you the score that I gave this, but I want you to stick around because I want to explain why I gave it this score. Now, as you know me, I don't, don't do two things quite the same way or any particular time in a row, but score wise, with we live in time, I am at a 4.5 out of ten. And you may be going, why? [00:01:48] That's probably the biggest question I get when I talk to people about the scores that I give movies, is why I actually like explaining it. On movie deputy. A four out of ten is watchable but forgettable, and a five is decent story, significant flaws. And so I kind of fell right in the 4.5 out of ten. I interrogate movies for their plot and their content. I don't focus on all of the technical jargon that Hollywood focuses on. And in doing so, I am good at stepping on a lot of toes and upsetting a lot of people in Hollywood because of the way that I do these reviews. Well, so be it. I'm not changing what I do. It's the way I've been doing it all along, except I'm no longer doing it. In 300 words or less. But I am always still no spoilers. I hate them. So I will never be bringing you spoilers. [00:02:39] But in we live in time. If you are not at all familiar with the story, if this is a movie you have been contemplating seeing, I hope you give this a full listen. If this is one you've already seen, I encourage you to follow along just to see what you think of my thoughts on it. And I always welcome feedback. And if you absolutely love this movie and completely hate this whole thing, then guess what? You know where the off button is. I'm not. I don't force anybody to listen, but here we're gonna kind of jump right into it. I am giving this movie a guilty rating. [00:03:17] Yeah, guilty is an understatement on this one. But this one is when we first kind of see the characters. We're seeing one of the characters, and he's dealing with. He's just getting out of a bad divorce, and he's kind of going through this. We see this other young girl, and she's good. She's getting ready to go through culinary school, and they end up meeting just literally by, quote unquote, accident. I don't worry. No spoiler. So I'm not going to tell you that if you're not familiar with it, but they literally meet by accident. And so this entire story is basically their love story. How they meet, how they fall in love, and what comes from that? Well, it's not as simple as that, because the story jumps back and forth. We see into the future, and we see them with their daughter, and then we jump back in time, and we see them before they're even dating. And then we jump back way in the future, and then we see one of them is dealing with a pretty severe health condition, and we jump back in time, and we see them going through their courtship. When you go forward in time, it just goes back and forth and back and forth, back and forth. And it's honestly confusing if you're not paying attention. I actually went to see this twice because I'm like, okay, maybe I'm not giving this a fair shake because I'm taking notes through it the first time. And so I sat there the second time and I'm like, I was still just left. Like, okay, what's the point of this story? Is this supposed to be a love story? Is this supposed to be a drama? Is this supposed to be a comedy? I was lost. There is a lot of nudity. There is. There are some sex that's involved. There's strong language. Unfortunately, they do take it over the top and go full on progressive woke with new. I wouldn't say the story as a whole is that way, but there's numerous references throughout the story that they got worked in that just were unnecessary, that I'm sure particular people throughout the process had to have put in their, put their two cent in to work these ideas into the movie. So when I, when all is said and done, their lives come full circle at the end. [00:05:40] Both times that I went to see this, there were people, there were two types of people in the theater. There were people like me that were confused as like, okay, what? And then there were other people bawling their eyes out. And I'm like, okay, did we all watch the same movie here? [00:05:57] And that's kind of what other people were kind of thinking, too, because I like to engage people in conversation after the movies. And they were like, we just, I liked what one guy or how we put it. He goes, I just didn't get it. And surprisingly, neither did his girlfriend. She's like, yeah, I didn't really either. She goes, what was the point of it jumping back and forth so much? I'm like, that's what I was confused on. It's like, okay, this would have been so much of a better movie, at least story wise, if they would have told it in succession. Like, if they would have, like, started at the beginning and gone to the end just in one fail swoop instead of going back and forth with it because you just get lost because it doesn't really reference that. It's jumping around, at least in a couple different parts. And you're like, oh, wait, what? And like I said, it just leaves you wondering. And then, like, a couple of the gals that were crying, I'm not making fun of them with that chuckle. It's just, they were like, oh, but you did. It was such a beautiful story. I just love it so much. And I was like, I asked her, what do you love about it? It's just heartbreaking. [00:07:05] And that's, that. That was the only reason she would give me. It's just heartbreaking. [00:07:11] I don't. There was not, I mean, there's a couple sad parts of the movie, but I wouldn't go that far as to say that now. I'm, I guess I'm not making fun of anybody for crying at this movie by any means, but I was just trying to get a, oh, bless you, but Tara's sneezing. But I was just trying to get a serious reaction from a movie or just to under, just to try to understand what was going on here. And obviously, I know this movie means a lot to some people, so I'm not degrading that in the least. I mean, if you love this movie, great. [00:07:44] But if you are not into this movie in its book form, it's going to be really hard to understand this movie in cinema form. And if you are trying to avoid just a lot of these woke in your face progressive stories that are, that we just cannot get away from, and you're just trying to find a respite from that and an escape, this is not the one you want to go see. So I'm hoping that that's helped at least a little bit. Again, I'm giving this a 4.5 out of ten on the deputy scale. As always, if this review has been of any help to you at all or you're enjoying it, please like subscribe and share. And as always, be sure to go over and check out our YouTube channel.
