[00:00:00] Hello once again, and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews, where we are yet again interrogating a movie for its plot and content.
[00:00:11] And today I can guarantee I am going to be bringing you more than you expect with this review.
[00:00:17] And that's probably gonna get some mixed feedback on that. But I am doing what I promise. I dig deep into these movies and I find out whether they're guilty or innocent. And today's movie, though, it is sort of a kids movie. It's aimed at kids. It's based on a video game. So you probably know the movie. I'm talking about this one with very tenuous type of reaction to this. I'm giving this movie a guilty rating. Now, now, now, don't, don't give up on me just yet because I want to get into why. And I'm going to be getting into that here in just a minute, so you just gotta bear with me. So if you have not figured out by now, we are talking about a Minecraft movie. Now, if you have kids, if you are a kid, if you are an adult that likes this game, there are. I'll admit I've never played the game, but I've seen many people play the game. I have. It actually looks like a lot of fun. I was trying to look up one time to see if they had it for a phone and unfortunately they don't yet.
[00:01:29] But. So, I mean, I've kind of looked into this and it does. It looks like a fun game. You basically destroy things, you build things, you gain. You got to get wood and you got to get stone and you can dig and you can, you can build anything. It's basically like an electronic version of Lego. You can literally build anything your mind can come up with. Only there's more to the game than that. You got to survive the zombies and when you go after the pigs and stuff, you get pork chops and there's just all these different things going on at the game. And if you're familiar with the game, you know what I'm talking about.
[00:02:00] If you're not familiar with the game. Hang on, just don't, don't give up on me quite yet because this is. It's an interesting perspective of what we're going down with this. Now, like I said, I am tentatively giving this a guilty rating. And you may be wondering, but why this is a kids movie.
[00:02:18] That is because although there is. This is a. The basis of a kids movie, this is also.
[00:02:25] There's a lot of adult heavy jokes and a lot of adult heavy innuendo in this movie.
[00:02:32] And for parents that have come to know and absolutely despise Cocomelon for just the fact of its effect that it has on kids, this movie is basically doing that to anybody who loves Minecraft. This, this is absolute chaos that's happening here on the screen. And the, the story, the basic story is you have this young family moving to this area in Idaho called Chuglas Chuglass. How it's not really. It's pronounced a couple different ways in the movie. So I'm not sure really which one is the correct on that. But you've got these two, two kids and old. Mine's one's a young adult and one's a young kid and they are moving to Chuglas. Well, in Chuglas you have you first. First thing we do is we meet Steve. Now who's Steve? Well, if you know what Minecraft is, you know who Steve is. If not.
[00:03:28] Steve found this like little orb and little square thing and he put it in and he found this doorway to go into the Minecraft world.
[00:03:36] And it's not quite, quite what you would expect with that. And it's. I don't know, it's. I was expecting maybe more of this to be animated, but I mean that didn't really disappoint me, the fact that it wasn't. It just it. The Overworld is this area where Steve goes and we've all heard of like the underworld, but this is the Overworld and that's the basically the Minecraft world.
[00:04:01] And it becomes known as Steve's World or the theme park that Steve builds in the Overworld is Steve's World. Well, one of Steve's first friends in the Overworld, it becomes a wolf and he nicknames this wolf Dennis. So it's Dennis the wolf.
[00:04:17] And things get kind of crazy for Steve and he ends up being taken hostage by the Piglins.
[00:04:24] And so he sends Dennis for help. And Dennis goes back to the real world and ends up trying to find some help and takes a whole bunch of people back with him through the portal. It kind of shows them where to go. And so all these people are trying to figure out the Overworld and they're trying to nav. You got people navigating in the real world and you got some of that world left, that some of the overworld is left back in the real world and vice versa.
[00:04:50] And it's not actually as confusing as it sounds, but it's just the story itself. There's not much to the plot of the story. And you've got video game coming into the real world and the real world going into the video game and just trying to figure out how to restore each of the worlds to what they were.
[00:05:09] And Steve wants to remain in the Overworld and the rest of the people want to come back into the real world. Honestly, that's pretty much the basis of the story. Without giving away any spoilers, but what you have here is not quite as simple as that. Like I said, the amount of adult innuendo in this one and adult jokes is just.
[00:05:34] I was literally left with my mouth agape and I could actually see why some of the theaters had such pandemonium when this movie was showing in the theaters. So if you were there and you experienced this for yourself in the theater and you were in the scenes of all the chaos with all the chickens and everything, it was absolute pandemonium. And it is, it's just dorky and silly and just if it wasn't for the adult innuendo and the adult jokes and the adult content, mind you, there's no nudity, there's nothing inappropriate that the kids are going to watch. But there's going to be certain sayings that are picked up here and there are certain.
[00:06:18] They don't use any of the big swears, not, not even close. But they use things that a lot of parents don't want their kids saying.
[00:06:27] And those are happening in the movie itself as this is going on.
[00:06:32] But what you basically have here is, if you could picture Pixels meets Jumanji with half the story, half the humor and questionable content. That's about where you end up with, with this. So you may be wondering, score wise, where I came in at this swell.
[00:06:56] I really debated on this one for a little bit just because some of the. I guess the content is just not what you would expect for a movie aimed at probably 6 to 10 year olds. Mind you, this is one that there's probably going to be people of all ages that are going to find this movie absolutely spectacular.
[00:07:17] And then there's going to be other people that just wonder why and where two hours of their life have gone.
[00:07:24] And unfortunately, I think the vast majority are going to be on the ladder on that. So staying true to the deputy scale of a movie with a decent story with significant flaws brings us right in at a 5 out of 10 on the deputy scale. So. I know, I know, I'm sorry. I know a lot of you are going to be disappointed in that if you have younger viewers, younger kids, nephews, nieces, grandkids, that Want to watch this? I highly advise that you watch this with them because there's going to be questions and there's going to be phrases picked up and there's going to be content that, you know, some might not have a problem with, but other people are going to have a big problem with some of the content in this movie. Like I said, there's no nudity, there's no big swears, there's no like bloody violence, nothing gory or anything like that.
[00:08:22] It's just a lot of the jokes and some of the physical banter that they're trying to disguise as humor is just not what you would expect in a kids movie. Not what you would expect at all. All. Or at least I hope that you wouldn't. I mean, I cannot go into a kids movie like this expecting something such as this.
[00:08:48] And it's just I. I'm trying to think of how to give away some of the things that are going on in the movie without giving it away. And I really can't without revealing spoilers. So I pretty much just have to touch on the content of that content. Now, that being said, there is a bonus scene both in and after the credits, so there's two bonus scenes that you will want to stick around for.
[00:09:18] The second bonus scene shows us that this is not the end. This is not how the Minecraft story ends. I am sure there is going to be another movie in the works, though there is not an official buzz about it yet or any official information.
[00:09:35] So those are some interesting things. If you do decide to go see this, definitely stick through for the scene in the credits and of course the post credit scene.
[00:09:44] Also, if you make it through all the way to that point, at the end of the credits, there is a dedication. I'm not 100% familiar with the language, but I did manage to completely get the whole thing down. So I also posted that on my X account, the entire dedication to the different people of that area in New Zealand where this was filmed, they paid an homage to all of these people in this dedication in the credits. So I wanted to make sure and acknowledge that. And then it also comment made the comment in the credits of that there was special thanks to the Hess family. And again, if you're familiar with Minecraft, you're familiar with that name.
[00:10:28] If not, they were basically instrumental with starting the whole Minecraft thing. And as you probably are aware, even if you're not familiar with the game, it has gone haywire.
[00:10:39] So I do hope that you will come back tomorrow. Tomorrow we are going to be talking about a horror movie, so I just want you to be prepared for that.
[00:10:49] And I hope that you at least, whether you decide to watch a Minecraft movie or not, I hope that you can at least go into it as an informed viewer, knowing that some of the content may not be what you expect.
[00:11:03] So I hope that that'll help a little bit, or a lot of it, depending on your take on it. And I hope that you have made it with me to this point.
