Speaker 0 00:00:00 Why Hello everybody and welcome back. It is once again, me your favorite and friendly deputy of movie Deputy Podcasts, bringing to you what I was typically gonna say, the latest and greatest. But I'll be honest, I didn't get a chance to get to a third movie this weekend. So you're probably thinking, okay, what's she gonna bring us? Well, I'm gonna bring you a movie that's, well, it's not super recent, but it's one that I've had quite a few requests for. So I wanted to go ahead and touch on this one. If you are a fan of basketball, if you are a collector of sneakers, if you are at all, any pretty much any type of, any sort of sportsman, the name Michael Jordan means something to you. And even if it doesn't mean something to you, I'm sure you've heard it. Even if you're not a sportsman, Michael Jordan is just one of those names that it's just synonymous with so many different things. Speaker 0 00:00:53 There was a movie that came out earlier this year and it was called Air, just the Simple Word, just Air a i r and I'm like, okay, I'll watch it, I'll give it a chance and see. And I'll be honest, I was surprised so many of these movies go over the top and just go so woke and just, so, just why it makes you wonder. And honestly, it makes a lot of people not even wanna go to the theaters anymore. I've talked to so many people and they're like, oh, why do you wanna be a movie critic? I don't even want to go to the theater anymore, but that's why I do this because there are some surprises, like this one that just really blew me away. And though this one was short-lived in the theater, that usually indicates that it's typically not very good. Speaker 0 00:01:36 Like I said, honestly, I was surprised by this because I watched this on Amazon Prime. It's like I just, as quick as it went from theater to prime, my, my expectations were, were tempered. I came into this hoping that it would at least be like fours or fives. And like I said, I was really surprised by this. And I'm gonna kind of get into that a little bit with you, why? But I wanna tell you the score, first of all. And this one I know is going to shock a lot of people just because the score I'm giving it. Um, before I get to that though, I do wanna say, I actually gave this an innocent rating. There's nothing inappropriate in this movie at all. There's, there's a few words that some people might find objectionable, but overall the story and just throughout is not anything that would deem this as a guilty movie. But Error actually got an eight out of 10 on the deputy scale now. Yes, you heard that correctly. I gave this movie an eight out of 10. Now you're probably thinking why it's about shoes, but that's it. It's not just a shoes. This story takes place like back when Jordan was in his early years, and he was kind of a, a big thing with Adidas and with a lot of these other brands. And ni Nike honestly was at the bottom Speaker 1 00:02:58 Of the totem pole. Like they didn't even try going for the big stars like Jordan because they had a budget and they would set it up so they could go after like two or three different people every season to try to get 'em and do the whole brand sponsorship and all of this stuff. Well, like I said, Jordan was at, at this, even, even in his early years, he was a big name. They're like, we don't have a shot at Jordan. We don't have a chance. And Sonny Vaccaro, he was kind of a, um, middleman or so with Nike. He was determined to do something that nobody had ever seen done before. And so <laugh>, he went to Jordan's family directly and he's like, this is what Nike can offer you. This is what we can do that nobody else can do. Not only did nobody take them seriously, 'cause like I said, back in, back in the day, Nike was like the low man on the totem pole. Speaker 1 00:03:51 How they didn't go bankrupt prior to Jordan. I don't know. I mean, nowadays when you think of sports, it's like you think of Adidas, you think of Nike, you think of like all these major brands that just, um, they, they're synonymous the sports. But once upon a time, that wasn't the case for Nike. So Sonny really wanted to turn this around <laugh>. It was just the way that he did it. He broke the rules and by breaking the rules, it almost cost him everything to do so. But obviously we know how this turns out, but it's not as simple of a story as it seems. So like as that all plays out, how his family is involved, how he's involved, how Nike is involved, and just kind of the whole debate process of going back and forth, just they literally had to risk everything at this. Speaker 1 00:04:45 Because if this had failed, if they had not gotten this contract with Jordan, Nike may not exist today, but it's <laugh>. I mean, I hate to put that much of it on like the Air Jordan shoes, but there is so much to this story that we had that I had no idea. I truly had no idea, <laugh>, it just, it really broke the rules. I mean, I, one, there's a quote in the movie, it says, you remembered for the rules, you break. Unfortunately, this one, people weren't aware of this. And so I'm glad that the studio stepped up and said, you know, we're gonna make a story outta this, and yet we're gonna actually tell the story. And obviously they had to get Jordan's permission and everything with this because it all comes back to him. It, like I said, if you've ever been a fan of basketball, if you've ever been a fan of Michael Jordan, even if you're just a fan of the movies he's been in, check this out. Like I said, this one really blew me away. I was not expecting this to do what this did at all in the trailer, or not in the trailer, in the credits for this, it actually does say special thanks to Jordan Geller with Zim, which I'm Speaker 2 00:05:56 Sure that they kind of touched on some of the, the classic shoes and the, the shoes that are shown in the movie are actually the, like the original shoes from the whole bargaining and the whole approach to Michael in the first place. And there's a lot of kind of behind the scenes and un never before seen footage of Michael Jordan in the credits. So like I said, if you've ever been a fan of baseball, if you've ever been a fan of shoes, I'll be honest, I'm not a sports fan, but this movie really blew me away. So, and it's like I said, even if you're not a fan of that stuff, there is, there's an important story here about family and about loyalty and just it touches the heart. I mean, it's not just one of those stories that's centered around sports where it kinda loses everything else. This one just, I don't know how they managed it, especially in today's day and age, but it has a good balance throughout the story. So, like I said, if you feel it giving it a chance, I highly recommend it. But come back, I'm gonna be talking about a couple of the movies that I've been promising you, the, the other Poirot movies that are gonna be tomorrow and Tuesday. So come back and check us out then. Till later. Bye-bye.
