[00:00:01] Speaker A: Movie Deputy Reviews Interrogating movies for plot and content. [00:00:08] Speaker B: Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews, where we are talking about something special today. Hope you're still enjoying the intros and the outros. We're just having so much fun with this. And if you're in selective markets, you're going to be able to see some special commercials, and I will be sharing those here with my YouTube family soon. But today, like I said, we were talking about something special. If the poster is confusing, check the title, because we are talking about Godzilla. You might like what you're probably going, huh? We are talking about Godzilla -0. And the traditional way of saying Godzilla in Japanese or something at least close to it. I'm probably going to butcher it completely. Is. God. I learned that purely by accident with the Godzilla movies back in the 90s. The one with Matthew Broderick, which is personally my favorite of all of the Godzilla movies, not maybe the best one by any means, but of the Godzilla movies, that's my personal favorite. But this one is definitely interesting from a different perspective. Now, I did see Godzilla minus one, but I know I. I'm pretty sure I did the review, but I could not find it. So I'm gonna have to go back through my archive a little bit and go, hmm, So I can get that one posted too. But I do remember watching it and I found all my notes on it, but I just was like, okay, I'm positive. I reviewed this, but I can't find it anywhere. So I will be finding that and bringing that to you now. I will say if you. If you're super excited and you want to take your kids to this movie, don't. Please don't. This is not a kids movie. There are a lot of visuals, a lot of graphics, a lot of the story that is way too intense for a younger audience. Now, I'm not talking just violence and gore. I'm talking imagine seeing Japan after we hit Japan with the bombs and the devastation and stuff left over, very graphically, things like that. And then graphically graphic devastation of some other things that are happening as the movie goes on as well. So as a content warning, and for anybody who suffers with PTSD from any type of military service or has any PTSD from, like, loud explosions, things like that, it's important that I bring this to their attention. And then there's also some scenes with some very much flashing lights and things like that. There's a little bit of motion sickness concern on some of the scenes. If you are super sensitive, it Might bother you in a few parts, but the whole movie is not like that. So I don't want to discourage people on that, but I at least wanted to bring it to people's attention. Target audience on Godzilla -0. And don't worry, we're going to be getting the trailer here in a second. But target audience, I would probably say 18 to 15, 40ish. And there's going to be probably people older than that that enjoy it, probably some younger than that that enjoy it as well. This movie, is it trying to be a Godzilla traditionalist? Now, if you're familiar with a lot of the Godzilla movies, you'll kind of understand where I'm going with that. And we're going to get into a little bit more of that after we watch the trailer here. You know, I mean, no spoilers ever, so you don't ever have to worry about that with me. But let's jump into the trailer before we get too far into this. But like I said, I am giving this a guilty rating just because of some of that content. And just like I said, it's a little bit of. I guess all the Godzilla movies kind of have somewhat of a narrow window. Now. I need to precipice before we go any further. This entire movie is in Japanese and it's subtitled. I know, I know. You know me, I normally don't watch subtitled movies, but this one, obviously I did. And same thing with Godzilla minus one, but with Godzilla minus zero. Like I said, the whole thing's in Japanese, and so is the trailer. So if there are subtitles on the bottom of the trailer, if you are over here on our YouTube channel, if you are listening on the podcast again, thank you so much. But you're to understand, unless you speak Japanese, you're probably going to want to come over here to the channel to fully understand what they're saying on this portion of it. So let's get over and check it out. So basically, what they're generally talking about is that it's been two years since Godzilla minus one, and they said they blew Godzilla to pieces. And so it's like, how is he back to fight again? And so they're kind of discussing that of fighting fire with fire. Everything ends here. And that's what I was talking about. A lot of it being in Japanese. And it's showing Godzilla, of course, on screen. And then just some of the aftermath of the fighting. And what you're not seeing is who he is battling. You know me, I don't ever give away spoilers and stuff on that. But the creature that he's battling here, I don't know if I should say who. I don't want to spoil that. I don't know if that would be a spoiler. You know, I'm just gonna play it safe and I'm not gonna mention who he's fighting here. But the creature that he is fighting also has a lot of the same abilities that he has, and even more so because they not only can regenerate, but they can transform. Now, I'm not talking Transformer style, but I'm talking where they can morph and evolve into different forms. And that's part of the thing we're going to get into with the story here a little bit, is Godzilla minus zero is. We have all this build up for Godzilla and it's. It's Godzilla movie. And Godzilla is only really on screen for like, the movie is 2 hours 15, 2 hours 16 minutes long. And we're. We maybe. See, I didn't actually use like a stopwatch or anything to calculate it, but it felt like about 20 minutes of the Godzilla. And you're going, but, okay, I can get past a lot of that because they. The. The storyline that it follows is it's people who were affected by the last basically aftermath of Godzilla directly and indirectly. There are things with that Godzilla left behind from his last fight that not only led to. If you're familiar with Godzilla minus one at the end of the movie, it shows like a piece of him in the bottom of the ocean and it's going to start regenerating. So obviously we know how he came. We knew he was going to come back. But during these fights, both he and this opponent, their injury levels are at different levels, their regeneration levels are at different levels. It's very inconsistent. And it's just kind of like going, huh? And you're left wondering at the end, it's like, okay, are these creatures defeated? Or is this just leading into something more? Does this even the story makes sense? There's actually a lot of heart to the story. But you have to take. The story of the people is a completely different story than the story of Godzilla. And you're like, what? And that's touching on some other different movies that I'm referring here to my notes as I'm watching this. My first thought is, okay, there's references to other Godzilla movies just minorly. And then there's multiple scenes that feel like you're watching pressure, the recent 2026 movie called Pressure. And then there's even Some Alfred Hitchcockish type vibes, because there is an entire scene that feels like you're watching the birds. Now, if you're familiar with Hitchcock, you know, the scenes that I'm kind of referring to with that, and it just kind of really plays into. But you. There's no way that they were not inspired by Alfred Hitchcock with the way that that particular scene. And I'm not going to like totally give it away or tell you what's going on with that, but when you're watching it, your brain just immediately goes there, especially if you're at all familiar with the classics. And so the story about the family, there's a. There's a particular family. And they. It kind of follows them all the way through this. And it's heartbreak and happiness, sadness, laughter, crying, tears. If, if you. Okay, if you're a huge Godzilla fan, your emotions are going to be on a roller coaster. If you're not a huge Godzilla fan or you're not a big fan of movies with subtitles, you might be lost because there's a lot of references in here. That being said, like sort of with some of these inconsistencies, some of the things of. Okay, there's a lot of injury inconsistencies, not just with Godzilla and the one he's fighting, but also with the people and things that were just like things that make you go. And when it's all said and done, we don't really know what's left. And with Godzilla, with the creature he's been fighting, and with the family, there is a very, very emotional moment towards the end of the movie that people should be prepared for. Whether or not you need tissues, that's going to be up to you. But at least you should be prepared to know that it is a very emotional moment at the end of the movie. And regardless of your thoughts of the movie, you can't help but be drawn in by this particular scene. So is this going to be a movie for you? That's where we really get into the of it. Because I. After this movie was done, after it was all said and done, those people leaving the theater and other people coming in for the next showing, and I'm sitting there just still taking my notes and just doing stuff. And then I got a Godzilla at the theater tonight, too. It's like, huge. I'll take pictures. I'll post it on social media so you will get a chance to see it. Check out our social media pages and you'll be able to see some of those things that I'll be posting in the next couple days. But we're just standing. We're just sitting around there. We're talking about this movie. And they told me what they would give the movie. And I even showed them the Movie Deputy rating scales. Like, okay, I showed you one of them. It's like, okay, this is the rating scale that I use. This is the rating scale I created. If you're curious about that on the Movie Deputy channel, I have a podcast explaining the rating system. Or you can find it on moviedebd.com on the about Me page. Just kind of scroll down a little bit and my rating system is right there. But on this one, I was. Well, as soon as I was leaving the movie, it's like I was kind of in a particular window where I was thinking I was going to end up. And then I sat back and I'm analyzing it and I'm like going over my notes and just thinking and then just replaying a lot of it in my head. It's like, okay, this was this, this was this, this was this, this was this. And I was just like, okay. And I'm pretty much kind of right close to the window where I was at when the movie was done. Honestly, I ended up just a little bit under. And at the same time, I'm not. If, like, if you're a big Godzilla fan, you're not going to want to miss this movie. But if you're not a big Godzilla fan, I don't know if you're going to get a lot out of it. There's just a lot of missing pieces. There's a lot of plot holes, and there's a lot of inconsistencies. That being said, Godzilla minus zero. I gave a 5.5 out of 10 on the deputy scale. Now, you may be thinking, what are you thinking? Are you nuts? No, but I'm staying short of the Deputy scale. I mean, I am the Movie deputy, after all. And if you catch our commercials pretty soon, after all, I'm the authority. Legal authority. I mean, just kind of the whole thing. I'm not an actual cop, but I'm the movie Deputy. And I interrogate these movies for the plot and the content. And so I tend to be a little bit more harsh on them because I look at those inconsistencies. I look at this, I look at the fact that it's a Godzilla movie and it's more about the people than the monster. And sometimes that works, sometimes that doesn't. I mean, there's other ones that have done the Same thing. And mind you, I don't want two two plus hours of just watching Godzilla be destructive either or watch this huge fight just concert. But I think there needs to be a little bit more balance. Do you agree with me? Do you disagree with me? Feel free to give me a shout out on social media or contact me directly. And as always, please hit those buttons if you are enjoying this. I hope you are. I know I am. I love watching movies and just really kind of delving deep into them. There is another thing that I just realizing that I forgot to touch on. On this is okay. Back in the 1940s, that's when this movie is set. Back in the 1940s, the relationship between Japan and the United States was very as you can imagine with everything with World War II. Well, in this one it's like there's, there's a lot of negative feelings towards the Japanese, towards the Yanks as how referred to in the Mo movies. But. And that that's portrayed very, very clearly in this, in the story as well. It's not a huge part of the story, but it's definitely. It's port. It's. It's accurate to history. Not. I'm not saying the whole movie is. I'm just saying that particular sentiment. I'm sure that a lot of people of the time and that was just another thing to touch on. It's not to the point of being woke. I was kind of surprised there. It really is not a. It's not woke. But they definitely got some jabs in there. So will this be for you? That's for you to decide. But like I said, if YouTube, if you like this review and you want more and you want to get the latest and the greatest, hit those buttons and stick around because you're not going to want to miss more things that we've got coming up soon. I'll be back. Be back guys. Bye. [00:15:46] Speaker A: Thanks for joining us. Don't forget to like subscribe and share.
