[00:00:01] Hello once again and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews, where I am here bringing you another in depth interrogation of a movie in advance. Now, you may be wondering what I'm talking about on that. No, you can't come over this way. Sorry. As usual, my kitties are in here trying to interrupt what I'm doing. And that's just life. That's just part of it. So if you don't know me by now, I am the deputy of Movie Deputy. I'm Jen and I am a crazy cat lady. I've got six adorable fuzz balls that seem to think I am just a giant kitty cat. Either that or they think they're little humans. That's like a whole other thing in and of itself. But today we are not here to talk about kitty cats. We're here to talk about a movie. And the movie I'm going to be talking to you about today is actually much more than a movie. I'm going to get into that here in just a minute. Today we are talking about the new movie Homestead. Now, if you have been on social media at all or if you watch very much tv, I'm sure you have heard of this movie, but you probably don't know very much about it. The movie Homestead is a story done by Angel Studios and it is actually opening up a week from today. It's opening up on December 20. [00:01:20] But I am bringing you this review now so that you can have an opportunity to do something. And I'm hoping, in fact, that you do because it's an incredible opportunity that you don't see come along very often. And this is just one of those things. So before I get into the movie, I want to tell you a couple things about Homestead. Homestead is being done, like I said, by Angel Studios and they have kind of a promotion thing that has been going on since they've been promoting this movie. They have a thing that if you go and you pre purchase your tickets now, it's not asking you to select your theater or your show times or anything with that, you actually to do that later. But you can go on to angel.com presale homestead or just click on their homestead link on angel.com and it's all the information is right there. But you can, like I said, pre purchase your tickets. You can do 2, 4. You can do all the way up to a thousand, which I don't know why you'd want to, but who knows, maybe you just want to be a philanthropist and do that and help a lot of people out by donating the tickets or pre paying tickets for somebody else because that's also an option to do for you. But why, you might be asking but why would I do this? Well, that's where this thing gets cool. Because of the movie Homestead. It's a big thing. With this they are giving away a $300,000 prize packet just for going and pre purchasing your tickets. The more tickets you purchase, the more giveaway, the more entries into the giveaway things that you're. You're going to have the opportunity to do. And like right now if you were to buy 30 tickets, let's say that'd be $300, it includes a three times bonus entries for this week only. So you would be given for those 30 tickets you would earn 90 giveaway entries for this contest. Now you may be thinking okay, but what I mean seriously, what's a $300,000 prize? Everybody values things differently. [00:03:22] But this is one of the biggest reasons they're promoting this is. And you may be thinking what does this have to do with the movie? And don't worry, don't worry, I'm going to get to that. I will tell you right now before I even get into this, I am giving this movie a 7.5 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. It is excellent story and how it's presented and what the story does and what the story explains. And like I said, I'm going to be getting a little bit more into that in just a minute. But please bear with me on this. Just some of the prize items and I'm sorry, that was my chair is a box house. It's a 500 square foot tiny house valued at $139,000. [00:03:58] They're giving away one Bitcoin which is valued at over $90,000. [00:04:04] A Polaris Expedition OHV customized by the Diesel brothers, valued at $75,000. [00:04:12] They're giving away a greenhouse. They're giving away all this freeze dried food and this storage stuff and these solar powered units and these different things of survival and this equipment and this tech stuff that is, that will just blow your mind and you really need to go on to like I said, if this is something you would even like to even consider doing, if this is a movie you have even considered going to see, please go buy your tickets early and have a chance to win this giveaway because this is something that just does not come along like this very often. [00:04:46] And it's, it's an incredible like truly once in a lifetime opportunity. We. [00:04:53] I know I'd be crazy for passing it up. So I'm hoping that you will not be as be that crazy that you wouldn't want, that you'd want to pass this up is what I'm trying to say. Sorry, I'm tripping over my own words here. And if you're wondering, yes, I have already gone on and pre purchased my tickets and again, I have not selected the show times or the theater. And yes, I've already seen this movie here at home, but I still want to go experience this on the big screen. You may be thinking, why? Because I mean, there's one thing watching the movie at home in my home theater and kind of checking stuff out or sometimes if I just want to sit in the living room and watch it with, I mean, other people around me. But there's just the experience of going to the theater. I mean, okay, I've got to be the weirdest movie critic in history as I cannot stand popcorn. The smell, the taste, it is just absolutely repulsive. The only kind I will eat is caramel corn. That's only because you can't really taste the fact that it's popcorn. [00:05:49] But yeah, there's this sound. Just the smell and the sight and the taste of popcorn. [00:05:56] Like I said, I've got to be the weirdest movie critic in the world. I cannot stand popcorn. But it's the rest of the experience. And you may be thinking, but wait, that is the experience. And it's like, no, that's not the only experience here. And like I said, this movie is opening up a week from today. And like, if you've even considered even possibly going to see this, please go check this out because it's just, you just don't see things like this come along very often. And you can continue to get the three times your entries for another about a day and a half yet for when this review is going live here. And then obviously the earlier you buy your tickets, if you've already bought your ticket, you know how many multiple times entries you got entered into win that. But like I said, this is going to be a $300,000 prize packet. So what it is. You choose your ticket packet from the exclusive pre order options. You'll get your promo codes and you'll receive those promo codes equal to your ticket quantity redeemable when the showtimes become available. Like I said, you don't have to pick the theater showtimes, but it'll give you the promo code so that you can when you do decide to want to go to the theater. And the earlier that you pre order the higher your multiplier for the homestead giveaway. [00:07:09] But you may be thinking, okay, but what does all this have to do with the movie? And it has to do a lot with the movie. Now I want to say though, when I started watching this movie, for the first few minutes, you're wondering if you're watching the right movie because you're seeing some people trying to get to the country. Not the legal way. I'll let you use your imagination on that one. But they're coming into the country and they're talking in different language. They're in a different language. You're seeing subtitles and you're like, am I watching the right movie here? It's like I literally paused the movie to go back and check. And I was like, okay, yeah, this is the right movie, so what in the world? And don't worry, I'm not going to spoil what happens because what happens next kind of lays the course for the rest of the movie. [00:07:57] Now why is that important? [00:08:00] Well, homestead. And I've engaged people in conversation with this over the last couple old last week or so. And I'm like, okay, what do you think homestead would be about? And people think it's going to be this thing of like out in the rural communities. Okay, I live in Nebraska, if you know anything about history. And the Oregon Trail place called Beatrice, Nebraska, it's about 40, 50 miles from where I'm at at the moment. It is actually the very first homestead on the Oregon Trail. [00:08:29] And so that's kind of like where my brain first goes when I hear the term homestead. So that I just kind of thought that was a neat little piece of history to pop in there real quick. [00:08:38] But so I mean, that's kind of where my brain went, was like, okay, what's this going to entail? And it has to do a lot more with this kind of being a. An apocalyptic type story with that has to do with more with like picture an apocalypse and preppers type combination, but in a wholesome direction. Now, stories like this, okay, there's a bunch of apocalyptic stories out there. Don't get me wrong. It is just almost. Then just the entire Hollywood community with disaster movies is almost overdone as you may be thinking, oh great, another one. But no, no, just bear with me here. Bear with me with this one. We see something happen that going to change everything forever for people in the United States. [00:09:34] If you have ever seen the TV show Jericho back in the day, it begins in a similar manner. Like I said, don't worry, no spoilers here, no spoilers on any, even anything close. [00:09:47] But people find themselves needing to get away from some of the big cities. [00:09:52] And this one family that it's kind of focusing on in part of the story, they. They know somebody that lives up in the mountains that basically the plan was to always go to that person if something were to ever happen. And the person that lives up in the mountains, he is this prepper type person. And it's. It's quite interesting. It's kind of how this is all done. And his name is Ian Ross, though the character's name is Ian Ross. And he has this huge mansion. I mean, there's no other way to really put this. It's a giant, huge house. And he's got this acreage and he has. [00:10:32] He's basically, if you've ever seen the TV show, preppers. He is like prepper to the extreme. Like, he's got fruit trees and he's got grains and he's got all these other things and he's got all this canning and all this prep and all this water filtration system. Like, he's got the whole thing. Like, if there's ever going to be a natural disaster, you want to have him as a friend. [00:10:54] Seriously, if there's ever anything close to any sort of natural disaster, this is a person you want to have as your friend or somebody like that, or if you want to do that yourself. It just shows kind of the preparedness and the necessity for that and how quickly things can change. [00:11:11] This story really does a lot of storytelling, which, I mean, is kind of the whole point of a movie. But sometimes with movies, they kind of start going down one path and then they get derailed and kind of go down somewhere else. This is one of those ones that it starts like, it may have me wondering if obviously from watching the right movie, but it kind of starts a little shaky, but it. I mean, it will literally leave you speechless. [00:11:37] And you're watching how this is all playing out and then as you can imagine, things get a little bit chaotic because where do. Where does everybody want to flock to when things are out of control? They want to. They want to flock to where the control is. Of course, there's a. Okay, everybody remembers the toilet paper shortage recently. And I mean, just the chaos that went around with that. Now picture basically society as a whole stopping. I mean, there's no more trucks delivering goods. There's no more trains delivering goods. Everything has stopped. [00:12:09] And who, I mean, where. Where do people turn that situation? Well, it becomes a very hectic situation and a question of true survival and how far some people would go to protect themselves and their family. [00:12:27] This is truly. It's not just the story of the apocalypse, apocalyptic type event and the reaction to it, but it's a story about redemption and love and strength and friendship and the whole thing of right and wrong. And like, how far are we willing to go to protect what matters to us? [00:12:51] And what are we really. What are we really willing to do? What are we really willing to sacrifice? [00:12:58] I'm trying to talk, so I'm chirping up my own tongue here, but what are we truly willing to sacrifice to survive? What are we willing to risk to survive? [00:13:09] Well, it's not as simple as all that. It really isn't. Because for everything that Ian and his family have, they're missing something. [00:13:21] And it takes kind of a series of events to really show them what they're missing. But where they find what's missing comes back to a story of Jesus. [00:13:35] And it's not like doing so in a preachy manner. I mean, there's some movies, and not just by Angel Studios, but movies out there where they tell their story, but they tell it in a way that it feels like you're listening to a church sermon. And this is not one of those movies. This is one of those ones that you are just drawn into the story. I will say, if you have to pee, do so before the movie starts because you're not going to want to get up. There's not really a good moment to go run pee in there. This movie, there's. There's a little, some little bit slower times and there's. There's a lot of tensions going on in this movie and a lot of drama. I'm not talking like soap opera, soap opera level, but just when it comes down to the hard choices and the hard decisions and who is really going to stand with who or who's really gonna stand with whom and where that leads them and what going to be their salvation? Is their salvation going to come from themselves or is it going to come from a higher power? Is it going to be enough to save them? Or is this just the first step in a series of survival? Now, mind you, I'm using the term series there intentionally because this story is actually based on a book or book series. And I keep saying series because it really is going to be a series. The movie is starting out first, but then it's going to become a series on Angel. And so there's already, I guess, a series currently on there. That has already has to do with Homestead, things like that that's building up to this movie and then the series picks up where the movie leaves off. Now mind you, the movie ends on a little bit of a not, not a full on cliffhanger, but enough that you're going to want check it out, to check, to subscribe to angel and to check this out and to be able to follow that because this is, it's just you're going to be captivated, you're going to be drawn into this story and you're going to recognize things in these characters, in these people that are playing these characters on TV and in the, in the movie you're going to see parts of yourself in these people that goes to say different things for different people in different ways. But it does so in a way that is to say captivating doesn't quite capture it enough. It's one of those ones that just, you can't help but follow it and you can't help but fall in love with it because of what it is, because of what it is doing. And when it finally revealed towards the end of what this truly comes down to. And it's going to come down to two things and I can't tell you what they are because that's going to be a huge spoiler. So I can't divulge what that is to you, but I will say you're going to want, like I said, you're going to want to check this out. So please go over to Angel.com, get your tickets, get your entries to win this amazing prize package. But more than that, be prepared for a life altering story because we never know how far we are away from this and what it's truly going to take to survive. And I'm not going to sit here and say, okay, yeah, faith is going to make everything all better and it's going to fix all the problems because that's not how it works. But there are stories like this that give us hope that they're is something more than what we can initially realize. Even when we have faith, even when we believe with everything in us, there's sometimes just that little extra something that just goes, wow, I didn't know I needed that until it happens. Then you're like, how did I not know I needed that? And this movie is that. [00:17:39] And so is going to be the series that follows it. So again, please check this out. Now, you're probably wondering if I've given this an innocent or a guilty rating. I did let you know already. I gave it a 7 1/2 out of 10. [00:17:50] I am actually I'm going to be surprising a few people here. I'm going to be giving Homestead a guilty rating because it's dealing with a couple's there's a couple things that happened as this plays out that I'm giving it a guarded guilty rating. It would be safe for younger viewers if you have somebody there that can help explain these more complex moments. But by itself, I would not recommend this for the younger viewers on their own because there's a lot of undertones to this story that might not be as easily understood. [00:18:23] So I want you guys to be prepared for a great movie.
