Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Hello, and welcome back to another episode of movie Deputy Reviews, where we are delving into another Deadpool movie. Now, if you checked out this morning's show, you noticed we talked about Deadpool two. And in this episode today, we are talking about a different version of Deadpool two. This one has its own title and everything. It's called Once upon a Deadpool. Now, when you think once upon a time, you think of these happy go lucky, cutesy fartsy little feel good stories. And that's not necessarily what you get here. I mean, you still get Deadpool in all of his glory in every way that matters, but it's really toned down. You don't get the f bombs, but you get a lot of f bleeps, which I will address in the review itself.
[00:00:56] Now, does that take away from Deadpool? Yes and no. It's like that. That's a hard one to answer, but just because it is what it is. Now, I'm still giving once upon a Deadpool a. It's still a guilty rating. I don't know if I would say quite as guilty, but this one still is a guilty rating.
[00:01:15] But I am going to actually wait and share the score with you towards the end end of this. Now, that's not what you might think. And of course, if you haven't done so already, you know which buttons to push, so you always get the latest and greatest deputy content.
[00:01:30] And of course, I don't want to disappoint you with this, too, but you may be wondering, okay, why are you giving us two shows in the same day? Well, I usually do it based on years and movies. Well, Deadpool two came out earlier in 2018, and once upon a Deadpool came out of closer to Christmas time, but they both came out in 2018, so I thought it only fitting that I do them on the same day.
[00:01:55] So I'm hoping that you will enjoy this as well. I'm going to share with you the original review that was up on moviedevity.com. and of course, no spoilers ever, so you don't have to worry about that. But if you haven't already picked up on the whole thing, there is just this existential thing of Deadpool. I mean, he is foul mouthed, he is violent, he is gory, he is just all over the place, but at the same time, within a narrow window that you at least you know what to expect. It's like you're gonna laugh, you're gonna cry, you're probably gonna gag at a few scenes along the way if you're sensitive to blood and gore, or honestly, if you're sensitive to anything, these are not the movies for you. It's like he really pushes the boundary. And it seems like, as the movies progress, I mean, as we go, I've gone from Deadpool to Deadpool two now to Once upon a Deadpool. And then, of course, the new one that is opening up this weekend of Deadpool and Wolverine, he steps up the game each time with the content that he gives us. Now, some may see that as a benefit, others may see that as more of a detriment, but honestly, you can kind of see it both ways. But this one approaches it in a very reminiscent way. Now, it does so in the style of probably of a lot of people's all time favorite movie, Deadpool three, also known as Once upon a Deadpool, which is just a redoing of Deadpool two. So it's kind of confusing on that, but this one is done in the style of the Princess bride. No, I can hear the shock. Like, I could. I could audibly almost hear everybody go, what?
[00:03:47] So if that was your reaction, that's fine. That's perfectly fine, because that's just what this is. I mean, it's supposed to be just over the top. Now, like I said, I'm going to share with you the original review, and then I will share with you the score that I gave this, but here we go. Deadpool has always been a character that exists to break the fourth wall, first and foremost, but also because he is existentially over the top at all times here, in an effort to reach a different demographic, he self narrates with the help of Fred Savage. Hey, I did say Princess Bride, but in Deadpool two, but this is basically Deadpool two in a PG 13 version of there are no f bombs, but there are a lot of f bleeps. All the while, Deadpool and Fred Savage are back in a reminiscent scene from the Princess bride. Now, this story is still Deadpool two, which may take some viewers by surprise, but it tones down a lot of what makes Deadpool, well, Deadpool.
[00:04:56] I wouldn't go so far as to say it's family friendly, but at least it's safer for a younger audience, like 13 plus. At the same time, while it is toned down, the existential content that makes Deadpool what he is is toned down as well. The humor that happens during the narration helps, but it definitely loses some of the magic.
[00:05:18] Those who go to see Deadpool for the over the top behavior may find themselves wondering what happened, but those going to see Deadpool, out of his element, will simply enjoy it for what it is.
[00:05:31] If you do decide to watch this, make sure to stay into the credits, because there are three Deadpool bonus scenes, and then stay beyond all of that for a special Stanley bonus at the very end. And you'll want to bring your tissues.
[00:05:52] Sorry, I'm just remembering what that scene is and just tearing up a little bit. Just. Yeah, you definitely need your tissues for the post credit Stan Lee bonus scene. It's just very fitting. Very, very fitting. And it's a very fitting tribute to Stan Lee.
[00:06:11] Deadpool movies are not typically tearjerkers, and this one's no less. But that special bonus scene at the very end, even if you're not a fan of Deadpool, if you've ever been a fan of the MCU universe, check this out. And even if you. Even if you fast forward through the whole movie, the bonus scene is worth checking out. So I hope you take the time and check that out. But of course, you're probably wondering the score that I gave Once upon a Deadpool. Once upon a Deadpool got a 6.5 out of ten on the deputy scale. So far from a bad score. I mean, it's still very entertaining. It's just not as Deadpool, but it's just nothing. Deadpool. That price sounds confusing, but a lot of us who have come to understand who and what Deadpool is expect a certain level of just depravity in these movies. And like I said, this one toned it down for more of a pg 13 type audience.
[00:07:09] And obviously he did so to try to reach a younger demographic, because Deadpool two didn't do quite as good as Deadpool one did in the theaters, probably because people did not know what to expect. With Deadpool one and then Deadpool two, people probably knew less of what to expect. But there are. There's the entire demographic of us that just get a lot out of these movies, and I hope you're one of them. And if not, you know, that's great, too, but I hope that this helps. Like I said, even if you're not a fan of these movies, that bonus scene at the very end is more than worth a. Worth the whole rest of the movie.
[00:07:50] So, like, if I had to give a score to that bonus scene by itself, it's like that. That would probably be pretty close to the top. Pretty close.
[00:07:59] So be sure to come back tomorrow. I know we're just getting into the new week with that, so bear with me on that. But tomorrow we're going to be talking about the new Deadpool and Wolverine. So be sure to wear your seatbelt tomorrow, too, because it's going to be one heck of a ride and you're going to want to hang on. So come back tomorrow. You know which buttons to push. And I will be back soon. Bye.
