Show Notes

This continuation of the story from Captain Marvel does something that is difficult to do. It surpasses the original. Mind you, there are still some elements worked in, tying in the "wokeness" to the new ideas but it's no longer the primary focus of the story. Here we see something refreshing and for cat lovers in particular, this one will soon be a favorite for many. If you were hesitant to check this out because of Captain Marvel, it definitely is worth the price of the ticket.

[00:00:00] Why, hello again, everybody. It is, once again, me, your friendly deputy of movie Deputy podcasts, bringing to you our first ever two reviews in one day. If you caught our early review of Captain Marvel, I am sure you are thoroughly going to enjoy my review of the Marvels. It is the 2023, a continuation of the Captain Marvel story. Now, I will say there are references in this one that do require you watching the first one. So as much as I almost hate to say it, I do recommend watching that one before you watch this one, even though I want to warn people right ahead. The other one is full on woke. Full on woke, woke, woke. Just to the point of just. Okay, if you're into that, if you're into the whole social justice thing, you're going to love it. If you're not, this one is definitely worth sitting through the other one to at least understand the references. Or if you just want to sit down and just watch this one, if you can't already tell. I did like this one quite a bit more than the original. Now, you may be wondering, okay, but what is the rating that you gave it? It's like, tell us what you really thought about the movie. And I'm getting there. I'm getting there. But this one is just. [00:01:24] I just want to say right up front, that goose, what are they called again? I can't think what they're called. The cats that aren't cats that try to think what they call them in the movie. My brain is just completely blanking on that. And I apologize on. That's the. That's the word I'm looking for. But the Flirkins are as much as Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel and Professor Marvel are the stars of the show. The Flirkins Goose and the other Flirkins that you'll see on screen as well. For me, they were undeniably the stars of this movie. If you love animals, if you particularly love cats, which can you tell that I do with as many times as I mentioned, my babies? I am a cat mom to six beautiful, furry, fuzzy creatures. And I absolutely fell in love with certain parts of this movie for obvious reasons, of course. No spoilers ever. [00:02:29] BUt this one, like I said, it kind of picks up where the other one left off. Only further in the future, we once again see Monica, except she's all grown up. Who is Monica Rambeau? She is the daughter of Captain Rambeau, the one that kind of went through the training and stuff with death Danvers, I cannot talk today. Who, of course, is Captain Marvel with all of this and so we see some familiar faces, and we see a lot of new faces as well. We once again see the Kree, and we see kind of how everything else is working together. But there's a new villain involved, and this new villain, it's not necessarily the typical villain. You might think she's only a villain because of something that happened to her, something that happened to her home. And so she wants revenge for that. And it's up to Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel and Professor Marvel to stop her. But the thing is, the Marvels, their powers become intertwined. If you've ever seen any of the previews for this movie, that's not a spoiler. It's just kind of a big part of the story. So how that all plays out together is just kind of, it's an interesting take on it. Let's put it that way, that it's an interesting take. And so as that carries on, and then, of course, we see that Miss Marvel was a huge fan of Captain Marvel, dreamed of always meeting her, and then kind of gets caught up in this whole thing. [00:03:59] You could definitely tell that the Marvel is now Marvel whole storyline thing and Disney's involvement with a lot of this stuff with Star wars and with Marvel and a lot of this other stuff. You can see the intertwining of the stories. I mean, there's definite Star wars references in this one, and there's a lot of Sci-Fi references, and there's a lot of references to even. There's some Easter eggs for some other Marvel movies in here as well. [00:04:26] But will they be successful at doing this? There's a little bit more to the Captain Marvel story that gets unveiled as the story is told. [00:04:35] Will that go any further places? Like I said, there is some of the woke stuff still weaved into this one, but it's not jamming it down your throat the way it was in the original Captain Marvel movie and that I so appreciated. It was more background type stuff, and the way that it was worked in it was not the smashing you in the face over and over, as so much stuff in society tends to do with this stuff. And like I said, of course, the Flirkins, these scenes, everybody in theater, including myself, literally burst out in laughter. And it's like, it was just so cute. There were three in loving memory names in the credits, and I was trying to get some other stuff written down in the credits, and I missed their names. So I actually probably will be watching this again, and I'll try to get back to you with those, at least put it in the notes, if nothing else. [00:05:36] If you do decide to experience this one, there's a bonus scene in the credits, and there's no bonus scene after the credits, but there are bonus sounds at the end of the credits that definitely kind of lead that there could be something more. But you're probably saying, okay, you've never said what you gave it for a score. And, okay, usually if I wait for the end of the review, it's usually a pretty bad score. But here's where I'm actually going to surprise you a little bit. [00:06:05] Captain Marvel got a guilty rating because of some of the things that were discussed in that movie. But the marbles I'm actually giving an innocent rating to. [00:06:16] There was absolutely nothing that would have given this any sort of negativity. There were a few intense type fight scenes, but nothing that would induce a guilty rating on the deputy scale. But score wise, you're like, okay, come on, get to it. I may have only given Captain Marvel a 5.25 out of ten, but the Marvels earned a solid 6.5 out of ten on the deputy scale. I would have maybe gone a little bit higher, but there was some of the content that was just like, okay, did it really need that? I will say they did an amazing job with some of the more technical details and stuff in the movie, too. And I know some people like to focus on that, but I don't ever like to focus that part of my review on this. But like I said, we get to see a whole different thing and a whole different story thing of why Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, made some of the choices that she has made along the way. But we also get to see things tying into her past and her future. [00:07:27] There is a pretty big story twist that happens toward the end of this movie that involves. [00:07:37] How do I put this? Without it being a spoiler, I'll just reference an alternate universe, and I'll just leave it at that. When you watch, it'll make a lot more sense. I know just in that reference, you're probably thinking, what is she talking about? But like I said, you'll have to watch it, but it'll make a lot more sense. Again, that's not a spoiler, because I'm not giving you any details on that. But this is not the end of the Marvel. This is, I think, only the beginning down an entire different realm of directions that this story could go. Are we ready? Is anybody ready? I don't know. We're forever ready for some of these ideas, but ultimately, I hope so I hope you have fun. Please like subscribe and share the latest and greatest movie deputy content. I am going to be back tomorrow with another movie that is recent. It's not necessarily one from I don't remember if it came out this. I think it came out last week, but it's one that will definitely take you by surprise. Is, is that a good thing or a bad thing that you're going to have to wait and find out for yourself? So ultimately, I hope you have a great day and I look forward to talking to you again soon. Bye.
