[00:00:00] Hello again and welcome back to another episode of Boogie Deputy movie Reviews podcast. I know that was a mouthful and what a way to just get going. Hopefully you have caught the gotta breathe to be me show because that's the one I actually just recorded prior to this one. And as I'm sure you heard, my voice kind of go in and out. This will be my sort of test review. Seeing how well and how I guess get through this and the feedback that I receive on it, it's like, okay, do you guys want me to take a few more weeks off so I sound a little bit more like myself again?
[00:00:45] Or do you want just the way that I bring you my reviews, my take on them, even though I sound like a troll at the moment, I would laugh, but if I start laughing, I'm going to start coughing, and that hurts. My diaphragm is so tired as of my lungs. If this is your first time here, please, I hope you stick around, because I am much more than what I sound like at the moment. And I am the deputy of movie deputy podcastsendofiedevity.com, the one, the only me.
[00:01:23] And I'm always going to be me. No heirs, no pretension, nothing out of the norm.
[00:01:30] But you may be wondering, what movie are we talking about today? Well, hopefully if you clicked on this title, you know, at least I would hope so. We're going to be talking about the new Wonka movie now. Okay, I'm old school. I grew up with the Gene Wilder version and all of the fun songs and the flubs and the mistakes and the continuity errors and just kind of everything that's wrong with that one, but all the magic that just makes you forget all of that. Now, I was just looking back through moviedevity.com, and I found myself so surprised that I've never reviewed either that version or the Johnny Depp version. Now, I'm going to have to rectify that matter, but especially now that I am here reviewing Wonka. Now, you're probably wondering, okay, as harsh as you are, what could you possibly have given Wonka? Now, this one I'm going to surprise you on, especially the fact that I opened up with the fact that I grew up with the Gene Wilder one on Wonka. I actually gave it a seven out of ten on the deputy scale. Now, if you know anything about me and anything about what I put into movie deputy, you know how awesome a score that is. Now, you may be thinking, why would she give something that has no originality, such an amazing score? It's because this movie, it just transports you into this world and you feel like you are experiencing it with him. You see, he is coming into town and he has only a few coins to his name. And that's one of the kind of the beginning songs in the movie. You know me, no spoilers ever. Nothing even close.
[00:03:30] But it's kind of if little orphan Annie could meet Willy Wonka sort of thing. With the way that this story goes. There's similarities that pay homage to the different ideas and the different things in the originals of both of those titles. And there is definitely some inspiration here from Annie as well as, obviously, the original Wonka. Now, this one doesn't really reference the Johnny Depp version at all, but this one pays such homage to the original, to the Gene Wilder version in the way that the songs are, in the way that the story plays out and just the magic that you feel on the screen.
[00:04:18] And it will leave you smiling and singing long after the credits are done.
[00:04:25] Okay. I don't recommend singing if you can't breathe very well because I attempted to do that. And this sent me into a couple of hour long coughing fit. And even with my nebulizer and my medications that I take, it was not the best for me. But at the same time, I would experience this again and again. This is one of those ones that I will have in my personal collection and will watch it again and again.
[00:04:55] Like I said, this story gets stuck in your head. And being that it was done this way, I was really surprised that they did not go woke with this. Made so many stories. They try to blend in so much of different things from modern society. And this does not do that. This doesn't do that at all. And it leaves you with an odd. It's almost like how you felt after you've watched the original and just that special magic that anything is possible if you just believe enough. And that's really what is happening here. Now, as magical as this is, there's one point in the movie that almost kind of gets lost. And I'll be honest, this could have been maybe a movie with a score of even in the low to mid eight if it wasn't for this one point. Now, I've already touched on the fact that it's not woke, but the Oompa Loompa that is in this movie is just insufficable.
[00:06:09] Now, you may be thinking, wait, it's Hugh Jackman. So how bad can it be? Well, okay, we've seen the greatest showman. We know the man can sing. So it's not that. Well, it is that, but it's not that. The Oompa Loompa, the character, the songs, the backstory and everything that goes along with that just, okay, it's necessary for the story, especially with it being Willy Wonka. But at the same time, it's like, why did they do what they did with it, and how does it add to things?
[00:06:53] And if you pay close attention, there's a lot of Easter eggs in this movie. That kind of hint that there could be a sequel and that's something that we've never really gotten, is a continuation of the original three. We've never gotten he's sequel. We've seen the thing, the original where Charlie Bucket finds the golden ticket in a candy bar and ends up inheriting the factory. We've seen the one where he was a dentist's son growing up and always told he could never have chocolate. So he wanted to to have create the best chocolate in the world. And now we have this young man who has traveled the globe for the finest chocolates, and now he wants to take these incredible recipes and share them with the world. And like I said, they're all a little bit different, but we've never gotten a continuation of the story. So I, for 01:00 a.m. Maybe hoping that that's maybe the direction this goes in. I don't know, but I can hope for sure on that.
[00:08:09] And if you, of course, are wondering, did I give this a guilty or an innocent rating, well, I'm proud to say that I gave Wonka an innocent rating. There's a couple scenes, nothing inappropriate, but that might be a little intense for the youngest viewers. But there's nothing violent, there's nothing over the top. There's absolutely no gore, nothing inappropriate like that. And it's just literally magical. So if you are needing something magical in your life, if you want to experience something that will just leave you smiling, this is one that you're going to want to check out.
[00:08:51] I hope that you have thoroughly enjoyed the way that I bring this to you with my voice issues at all. But I am going to be back soon. I am actually going to just go take a break and rest for a bit as I'm not quite 100% yet, but I wanted to bring you guys something. And please message me, give me feedback on what you think it's like. Do you want me to continue my shelves like this? Do you want me to take a couple more weeks off till I'm back to myself?
[00:09:25] Let me know what you think. I would love to hear the feedback, but until later, I will be back soon with another great movie review for for you. And I hope that you, of course, click those buttons so that you can always be up to date with the latest and the greatest movie deputy content.
