The legendary story of Freddie Mercury and of Queen.

Original Review:

Music has the power to transform and transport us to the furthest reaches of our imagination. Only it's not just about the lyrics or the melody, it's also about who is performing the song. Certain performances can completely alter how the music is heard and understood. Freddie Mercury was one of those artists, but he didn't do it alone. He had a passion for the music but didn't have the ability to bring that to life until he met the other members that would become QUEEN. Though, as powerful as they were on stage, their lives behind the scenes were not as flamboyant as they seemed. Each of them lived their lives to the best of their abilities. Some pursued families, others pursued passions. After everything, they were still a family. Their music would change the world and open doors to new opportunities and information for individuals around the world. They were controversial, they were extraordinary, they were timeless... This story may not be the Freddie Mercury biopic that fans may have been hoping for, but what it presents is Queen's journey to stardom. It is definitely much more of a Queen biopic than a Freddie one. Some of the timeline is a bit off but that doesn't distract from the story that is told. If you've ever been a fan of Queen's music, then this is an absolute experience that demands your attention.

Speaker 0 00:00:00 Well, hello again and welcome back. It is once again me your favorite deputy of movie Deputy Podcasts, bringing to you the in-depth interrogation of a movie that has truly gone viral since it's released in 2018. If you caught yesterday's program, you know we talked about a legendary musician, Elton John, and of course we're gonna be talking about another legendary music icon. You notice I did say just magician or musician <laugh>. Well, I guess magician fits too, because they have a certain magic with the way they put the words together and just kinda the way the songs come together. But we're gonna be talking about Queen now. Do you know what movie I'm talking about? I hope you guessed right with Bohemian Rhapsody. Now, this story isn't just a movie about Queen, and it isn't just a movie about Freddie Mercury. It's a really in-depth look into his life and how everything came together as a band, and basically how they formed and how everything came together for them. Speaker 0 00:01:05 And it not necessarily the overnight success you might expect from such a legendary group, but it's shows all the trials and everything that kind of went into this. Because doing this is never easy doing this when you have a certain genetic quo about your personality. Like Freddie Mercury had taking aside, I mean, any of his personal preferences at all. He was, he was a difficult person to be around for a lot of people, and at the same time he was, he was too much for some, and I'm actually gonna quote Elise Meyers on this is of all, we're both from Nebraska. I don't know her personally, but when she's tells, when she hears people tell her that they need that, she's too much. She says, go find less. And that's basically what Freddie Mercury did when he was too much for people. He went out of his way, surround himself with people that he wasn't too much for. Speaker 0 00:02:00 And I love that she says that if like what she says, if she's too much, just go find less, because that, that sums me up too. It's like I'm a little bit over the top for some people, but so be it. But yeah, go find less it. But in Queen, they didn't just do that though. They, they bucked the system. They did everything opposite of everything that had been done up to this point, kinda like Elton John did in his own way as well. But they did it in such a way that it transformed music as we know it. And that has carried on through generations since then. I mean, this movie came out or in 2018, but this music has been timeless since it was written. Now very few musicians can say that and very few musicians have that ability to really carry that forward like that. It leaves us wondering if this is real life or it's fantasy. You know, I couldn't help but quote that, you know me <laugh>, but I actually wanna share with you the fact that I did give this an eight out of 10 Speaker 1 00:02:58 On the deputy scale. Now you know me, you know how harsh I can be. So giving an eight out of 10, you know, where this movie ranked it did, it was even in my top 10 of that year. So that, that really takes something to make it into the top 10, especially with all the movies that I watch. I do wanna preface with this, this movie did also get a guilty rating just because a, a, a lot of the topics that were discussed in the movie and even some of the language is not necessarily friendly to younger audiences or audiences that are sensitive to certain topics. Let's just kind of just broadly brush on that. If you're familiar with Queen, you know which topics I'm referring to. But I do wanna share with you the review that I had had on movie deputy.com. And of course, everything I'm sharing here is no spoilers ever, so you don't ever have to worry about that with me <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:03:49 But the review that is on movie deputy.com is music has the power to transform and transport us to the furthest reaches of our imagination only. It's not just about the lyrics or the melody, it's also also about who is performing the song. Certain performances can completely alter how the music is heard and understood. Freddy Mercury was one of those artists, but he didn't do it alone. He had a passion for the music, but didn't have the ability to bring that to life until he met the other members that would become Queen. Though as powerful as they were on stage, their lives behind the scenes were not as flamboyant as they seemed. Each of them lived their lives to the best of their abilities. Some pursue, some pursued families, others pursued, I can't say that word. Others pursued passions. Sorry, I'm just getting tongue tied here. Speaker 1 00:04:44 After everything, they were still a family. Their music would change the world and opened doors to new opportunities and information for individuals around the world. They were controversial, they were extraordinary. They were timeless. This story may not be the Freddie Mercury biopic that fans might have been hoping for, but what it presents is Queen's journey to stardom. It is definitely much more than a queen biopic than a Freddie one. Some of the timeline is a bit off, but that doesn't distract from the story that's told. If you've ever been a fan of Queen's music, then this is an absolute experience that demands your attention. And honestly, I think that sums it up pretty well there. Some words are easier to type than pronounced as you heard me kind of struggle with that one. The pursued, that's just one of those words pursued, pursued. It's just one <laugh> for me. It's like <inaudible>. But yeah, Bohemian Rhapsody, it's, it's just one of those special movies that, like I said, if you've ever been a fan of Queen and you have not experienced this yet, please take the time and do so. If you are a big fan of Queen and you're familiar with the movie, watch it again. Speaker 2 00:05:56 This is just one of those that you could rewatch over and over again and never get tired of. That is if you're a fan of Queen of, I mean, you kinda have to be a fan to get that. If you're not a fan of Queen, have you ever heard their music take a chance, look 'em up. I'm sure you could find a lot of the information online, not only about the music, but the band, and even more about the members of the music, <laugh>, of all of that. But I absolutely love bringing these reviews to you. I'm hoping that you are enjoying these as well. Stay tuned till tomorrow for another thirsty Thursday, and I will be back to talk to you again soon. Bye-bye.
