[00:00:01] Speaker A: Hello and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews. Forgive my last couple reviews.
Since I updated some of my software, some of my audio has been really pitchy and really, I don't know, I've just been getting a lot of like weird feedback in my, in my headphones and stuff on it.
So I want to apologize. I think I might have gotten it fixed. So let's fingers crossed on this episode.
If you couldn't tell by the title, you could probably tell by the poster right here on my side. The movie we are talking about today. And you may notice somebody's missing.
Well, I am the movie buff of the family, obviously, but my husband who went with this to see me with this, with me to see this movie. It was been close to a month ago now that we saw this and is. He did not want to take a chance of like, maybe he didn't want to fall below my expectations. That that's not even possible first off. But. And then he. It just wasn't. It's all fresh in his brain. And I can get that. I mean, sometimes even I have to refer to my notes to refresh my memory on things. I'm like. But fortunately this is one that I remembered pretty well. Not. I can't. I'm not like every little moment of the movie. But the highlights at least definitely the highlights.
But this one is going out to you, sweetheart. This is. This is from my sweetheart. Because the Wile E. Coyote has his all time favorite cartoon character. And so even though he's not here with me, he works in transportation, so that's a whole other category. But even though he's not going to be here on the show with me, this one is dedicated to him through and through.
So like, as you can tell, we are talking about Coyote versus Acme. Now.
I came into this with really, really, really, really, really low expectations because this movie had gone through like three studios to get it fixed. Like one studio started it and then they dropped it. Another studio picked it up and then they dropped it and then the next studio picked it up and then they finished it, surprisingly. But usually when that kind of thing happens or when you mix like live action with animated. Animated stuff, I mean you've got Space Jam, you've got the Scooby Doo stuff. You've got all these different movies that are live action meets cartoon.
And it's. You're going, how does this fit?
And is this going to be a.
This is either going to be fabulous or it's going to be a flop. And like I said, considering it had gone through a couple different studios. I set my expectations really, really, really, really, really low.
And I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm not going to give anything away. You know me. No spoilers ever.
But before we get too deep into this, I want to share the trailer with you because if you have not already had a chance to this one, it's even the trailer is fun.
So. But definitely stick with me. You're going to want to check out this whole review.
I promise it's going to be worth it. So let's check out that trailer together.
Okay? For those on our podcast who cannot see the video, I highly encourage you to come on over here to check this out. But we are starting with Wile E. Coyote opening up his box of ACME Rocket skates and the bb, which you heard. I. If you're at all familiar with the cartoon, you know that is the one, the only Roadrunner. I'm so. I'm not the only one and only. I'm just the one and only movie deputy. But this is the one and only Roadrunner.
In typical Coyote fashion, it fails.
[00:04:00] Speaker B: Have you been horribly injured by a product made by the ACME Corporation? It's not your fault. There's probably someone to blame.
[00:04:09] Speaker A: Me.
[00:04:09] Speaker B: The name of the case is Coyote versus Acme Wiley Coyote. He is reckless.
We all know who's responsible and all of his injuries are self inflicted.
[00:04:25] Speaker A: You've been settling ACME cases for years.
[00:04:27] Speaker B: I could probably get you 250 bucks for that.
[00:04:30] Speaker A: This is your opportunity to really show people what you're capable of.
[00:04:34] Speaker B: These companies think they can do whatever they want. We're sick of it. Acme, acu. Nothing to see here.
We really have nothing.
We both know it would be very unpleasant if anything bigger were to become public.
[00:05:07] Speaker A: So what is up, doc?
[00:05:12] Speaker B: The ACNE Corporation is releasing this film for account purposes only. We do not condone any of the storylines depicted.
[00:05:21] Speaker A: As you can tell, this movie is rich in sound effects. It is rich in fun, and it is. It's definitely a different take on anything that you might expect. Now, Coyote versus Acme, if you couldn't already tell, is about a lawsuit. Because the coyote is tired. He is tired of having all of his inventions go haywire and either blow him up or blow him sky high or something lands on him or insert. You could, you could. I could keep that going for the entire length of a podcast. Just coming up on the ways that ACME has injured Wile E. Coyote. But we're not going to get stuck on that. So he finally sees A chance to sue the Acme Corporation.
And who's at the head of the ACME Corporation? If you couldn't tell by the trailer, you know me. No spoilers.
But it is Foghorn Leghorn himself now. Cartoon character against cartoon character. It seems pretty simple, right? No, it's not that simple. Because though coyotes or Wily's inventions and everything that he has gotten from Acme fail, Acme is quite a successful company.
So what is happening with all of the stuff that the coyote is getting while he is trying to catch the Roadrunner? Well, we see so many classic skits going on between Wiley and the Roadrunner in this one. The whole. The BB's in the bird seed, and you see just all the different traps that he's trying to set. And so he sees this case as being the one thing to finally bring, finally get a hold, get the Roadrunner. And he's figuring, okay, they subpoena the Roadrunner. He's finally going to get a chance to get him right. Again, no spoilers ever.
But things don't work out quite like planned because he is trying to go after Acme for like, this one thing. And through a series of events, things that happen, they end up him and his attorney end up going after Acme for a much bigger picture here. Now, I'm not going to spoil it and tell you what that is. No, you know me. No spoilers ever. But how this plays out is fun. This movie is fun on so many levels.
It is. It's. It's violent, but it's fun violent. It's the kind of Looney Tunes that we grew up with. It's this. It's not worried about being politically correct. It's not worrying about we can't show violent things. It's not worrying about all of these different things that are happening. And there's one of the lines in the trailer. It's actually one of the lines in the movie. It's one of my favorite ones. It's AC me, you.
And so that's just one of. It's just a really cute line in the movie. And it's of course portrayed by Daffy Duck, who has alternative living arrangements in this movie. I'm not going to spoil what that is, but it definitely adds to this. And obviously it takes place in the desert Southwest. And even as all of this stuff is coming together, will Wiley win the case against Acme? Does he have a case?
There's. There's a lot more to that than what it seems and what has been happening to all of Wiley's products or Wiley keeps getting all of these particular products, has a theme that definitely plays into this movie as well.
Is this for little audiences? Absolutely. Is this for older audiences? Absolutely. It's like we grew up with this. We grew up with Looney Tunes. We remember the Saturday morning cartoons where you're running to the bathroom on the commercial breaks and you're trying to run back or you're going to get your cereal and you're plopped in front of the tv.
Because we didn't have streaming services back then, we didn't have all of this stuff to get these cartoons on demand.
So we had to get up early and plop ourselves down in front of the TV and watch the Looney Tunes.
And there are some really excellent surprises towards the end too, because you think it's just Wily and the Coyote. And then of course, you see Bugs and Daffy in the trailer and of course Foghorn Leghorn. But we see so many other characters. And if you make it to the end and you make it all the way past everything, you're gonna see a lot more. Which leads me to think maybe there could be more to this. Is there going to be a sequel to this? Are we going to get more Looney Tunes type stories or who knows? Who knows?

[00:09:48] Speaker A: Like this one took three studios to complete, but it finally made it. So what am I doing with Coyote versus Acme? Guilty. Innocent.
Innocent, absolutely.
If you are worried about Looney Tunes type violence, maybe shield your child. But as a whole, I mean, this is the stuff that we grew up watching as kids. And absolutely, I'm giving this an innocent rating. There is.
There's a couple near swears, but nothing that gets you in. Nothing that would get anybody in trouble on this one. And if you couldn't tell, there's some very recognizable human faces in this movie as well.
You may be wondering, score wise, where I'm at on this. Well, it'll let you ponder that one for just a second. Just a second. Because I know when I went into this, like I said, I was setting my expectations low. I try not to set my expectations before going into a movie, but growing up with Looney Tunes, I. I wanted it to be really good, but it was just like.
And it didn't do great in the box office, which I know it's out of the many theaters and stuff now. It's gonna probably be an instant video streaming soon.
But there was just something to this. It was fun, it was nostalgic, it was just. It was silly.
And you know, maybe we need more of that.
We need more of that. We need less drama and more silly. We need to go to the movies just to enjoy ourselves. We don't need to be preached yet. We don't need all of this hullabaloo. We don't need all of the Woke crap. We don't need.
Okay, they work just a teensy bit of that into it. But honestly, unless you were looking for it, you'd have a really hard time spotting it or listening to it as. Or I should say so, probably. Like I said, you're probably wondering where I'm at.
Have you been able to figure it out? Now think about the Deputy Deputy scoring system.
A seven is watchable, memorable, with. With, I mean, questionable content.
Six is watchable, good story, some flaws. Five watchable, decent story, significant flaws. Where do you think I'm at on this?
Obviously I'm in that range there somewhere because it's like, I'm not super high, but I'm definitely not super low. I came into this, it's like, please be better than a four. Please better than a four. Please be better than a four. Because I wanted this one to be better than watchable, but forgettable by far. And I even waited to go see this. So I was starting to recover a little bit and still got a long ways to go on that front, but that's a whole different story.
And it was definitely better than a four. Definitely on that.
Now, was it quite watchable, memorable, questionable content?
Not quite. Not quite. But it was definitely didn't have significant flaws either. There's some plot holes for sure, but it's Looney Tunes. It's not supposed to be a deep in depth drama that carries you all the way through this adventure. That carries you all the way into this. It's supposed to be fun and it delivers on that.
So on Coyote versus Acme, drumroll please.
I'm coming in at a 6.25 out of 10 on the deputy scale. Again, that is a 6.25.
And again, that does not mean percentages. This means that it is between watchable, good stories, some flaws, and watchable, memorable, questionable content.
Because there's always going to be people who find something to complain about with a movie like this because, oh, the Looney Tunes are too violent. This is showing this. This is showing this.
It's a cartoon, it's fun, it's supposed to be absurd, it's supposed to be obnoxious, and it's supposed to be silly.
This delivers on all three.
So I hope that you have had as much fun going through this as I have.
