[00:00:00] Speaker A: And welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews, where we are talking about Digger, the movie, the new Tom Cruise movie that's in the theater that just came into the theaters. I didn't get to see this one ahead of time, so I saw it in the theater like the rest of you are going to be doing. And this movie is not at all what you expect. [00:00:19] Speaker B: It is. [00:00:20] Speaker A: It's a tragedy. It's a comedy. It's a farce. It's a. It's absurd. It's. It's. This movie will make everybody uncomfortable because this movie is going to piss everyone off. It's gonna piss off the left, it's gonna piss off the right, it's gonna piss off the religious, it's gonna piss off the atheists, it's gonna piss off the earth worshippers. It's gonna piss off the people that make fun of the earth worshippers. It's gonna make fun of old people, it's gonna make fun of young people. This movie is across, like I said, is absurd in every way possible. On the red carpet. The whole big thing with the red carpet was, okay, give us this movie in three words. I've got my three. Absurd, awful, and brilliant. Now you're probably wondering what. And that's kind of what I was wondering, too. That's kind of where my brain was at because I just kept. I don't know what I expected from this movie. I'm going to share with you the trailer here pretty soon. Just in just moments here. But I want to warn you, there's a lot, you know me, I don't curse here on the podcast, but the trailer is full of profanity. So if you don't want little ears hearing it, you might want to turn it down or you might want to put some earphones or your AirPods or something in so that little, little ears don't hear it. Because this entire movie is laced with profanity. Like the trailer here. And so if you hadn't already guessed, I'm giving Guilt Digger a guilty rating. Definitely a guilty rating for. For multiple reasons on this one. But before I explain why I use those three words to put this together and why, I'm kind of warning everybody that this is going to piss everyone off. It's also very entertaining. I'm probably confusing you more than anything right now, but I'm going to get ready to start the trailer here in just a second. Like I said, I just wanted to prepare especially the little ears because this trailer is completely profanity laced. [00:02:41] Speaker B: Everything changes. You know, one Day, you're a cat. Just take a little taste for daddy. Come on, sweetheart. Look. [00:02:52] Speaker A: Okay, with that part of that scene, he gets a. A scoop of tuna on his finger or cat food of some sort. Some sort. And he tries to feed it to his cat and cat doesn't want it. So he goes. Even I was like. And I was not the only person that had a visceral reaction to that scene. It was just. And for those of you worried, it explains it in the credits. It's not a spoiler or anything. But this is not a real cat that this is happening to. This is an animatronic cat to kind of warn you a little bit of some of the stuff that you're going to be seeing even here in the trailer. [00:03:38] Speaker B: Next day, you're just ashes in the box. How long would you say she has between two weeks? Five minutes? Mr. Rockwell, my name is Sandy Clarkson. Yeah, Sandy. Hey, man. Buddy, you're the man with the five foot craft. Now, a glacier over there in Greenland, it shifts five feet. Now, this desk in front of me is bigger than five feet. Mr. Rockwell, my dick is a tenth of that size. What do you want me to chuck down to billion dollar platform over something that's 10 times the size of my d. I don't believe you understand what's happening. Sir, [00:04:12] Speaker A: I just was starting to worry a little bit. We haven't gotten into a whole lot of the profanity yet, but we're getting into that. [00:04:18] Speaker B: What did you just say? Sorry, sir. I know perfectly well what's going on here. Cause I'm paying for the whole thing. I'm paying for your fucking 90% Hungarian goose down winter jacket. I'm paying your salary. If you want to shut her down, well, damn. Mr. President, we're utterly unprotected against a disaster of this magnitude. What's our worst case scenario? [00:04:36] Speaker A: $18 trillion s. [00:04:41] Speaker B: Is that all the bad fucking news? [00:04:43] Speaker A: There's the nuclear waste too. Oh, no. [00:04:55] Speaker B: Digger here got us into this mess. And Digger's gonna dig us out again. Well, let's fucking go. You knew long before the rest of us. That is why it is your problem. We can't control the course of n for you to control the nerve. But it happened. Mother Nature, she loved to win. [00:05:17] Speaker A: You're going to save the world. [00:05:20] Speaker B: Ah, found another nature with the fight. Is he okay? Mr. Rosa. Mr. President. Fuck it. That word was dash. Help me shape the story. They already know the story. They know the facts. The story has yet to be told. When all else fails, you hit it with the truth, you know, the hard truth. Just bang, bang, bang, woo, woo. Burning down the house. Hey, that feels good, doesn't it? That's my girl. [00:06:05] Speaker A: That's why I was trying to give you a heads up on the language in the trailer. Digger is an oil tycoon, and I know you're immediately thinking, but his whole thing is to control the narrative because something is going to happen. And his whole thing is to try to control the narrative. And it's not just him, it's the government and it's multiple governments. And it's kind of how all this is going down. And then it's him in front of this international conglomerate of people, have advisors and everything. And it's just. And how better to control the narrative than to tell the truth? It's like they know the truth now, they just need the story. Except when they spin the story, it's still just a twist on the truth. Like I said, this movie is going to. I mean, it doesn't matter if you're liberal, conservative. It doesn't matter if you're religious or non, or if you're eco freak or if you're not, or if you're against eco freaks. If you're anti oil or pro. I mean, green energy or anti fossil fuel, it's gonna piss off everybody. And that's the point. This movie, it's. It's a. The whole thing with this narrative is. I mean, no spoilers ever. So you don't have to worry about that. But you have got ice. You've got an ice chunk named Judy that is putting a bunch of people in jeopardy. And then you've got another ice chunk named. What did they call it? It's got this really weird name. I should have. Kremlin. Kremlin Ova. Kremlin Ova. Like I said, it was a really weird name. And so you've got this other ice truck called the Kremlin Ova, which is also causing problems, but for two completely different reasons in two completely different areas of the country or the world. I mean, and it's just. It's absolute chaos because you're watching his personal life and how he's dealing with all of these government entities and how he's dealing with all of these people and how the people who do not want to disappoint him are trying to deal with him and all of these people because he's used to getting his own way. He's used to throwing his money around and kind of going, I'm bigger than you are. Except that doesn't always work. And like I said, this is really going. This is not aimed at one side or the other. This movie is about as politically incorrect as it gets. It is a. The poster says a man, a plan, a meltdown. Now, I said I was going to explain the three words that I used, because I used absurd, awful and brilliant. You're probably thinking, what? Yeah, that's kind of what I was wondering too. But those were the first three words that came to me while I was watching the movie. Absurd as this is. So this feels so far out of anything. I talk all the time how there has not been any originality in Hollywood in a long time. This is probably the most original Hollywood has done in I don't know when. And here they didn't give a flying bleep on that, on who they were catering to or who they were upsetting. And it makes it entertaining. And at the same time, it's absolutely. I mean, the watching it play out, I mean, you're just cringing and you're just like going, oh, come on. Throughout this whole thing. So you're just going. It's like you're not waiting for it to be done. It's like you almost want more. Now. I'm not now. Okay. I was kind of doing that a little bit with a movie a while back. You probably remember the one I'm talking about. But on this one, it's just. It is intentionally trying to be as absurd as it is, and then it's going a step further. And the thing is, it's doing so intentionally. This is done so in the way that it is done intentionally. And when the twist starts to reveal itself because the story is not as laid out as it seems. The story is not as outlined as it seems. There is a twist that is kind of out playing itself out, as this goes, that you don't really get to the precipice until, like, the last 15 minutes of the movie, which a lot of movies play out that way. But in this one, you have to appreciate it for the what it is. Now, I have to say that there's something else in this movie that's probably going to upset quite a few people. The name Digger. When that name is pronounced throughout the movie, you don't always hear the D correctly. I'll let you use your imagination on that one. You know what they're saying, but what your ears are interpreting is a little bit of something else. And you know, it's not referring to anybody in that sense. It's referring to digger the character. And it's just. It's just the way your ears interpret it. And I think that was done intentionally to kind of just amp up. It's like, okay, are they doing that on purpose? Or is this something that was just. Just happened? And no, as this, as it plays out, it just becomes more and more obvious how obvious this was supposed to be. And, like, as this twist begins to reveal itself and begins to play out, you're kind of going, huh? And then when, like I said, when everything begins to be revealed right towards the very end, and you're just kind of going, wow. But you don't. But at the same time, you're like, is that a good wow or is that a bad wow? Is this movie an absolute mistake, or is this one of the best things Hollywood has done in years? And I left this movie, I was talking to my better half, and I'm like, I'm really torn on this movie because I'm either low fives because it's just so out of the scheme of things, or I'm in the Sevens, which is watchable, memorable plot with questionable content. Now, to say that this plot has questionable content is an understatement. But as much as that is just an absolute mind mess. You know, I want to use the other term, but I don't curse on my podcast here, but it does. It just twists your brain and it's. It's very intellectual. It's very. Just intense as it goes. There's not. There's some, like, little pieces mixed in. You're, like, going, okay, how does this work? And who is Digger and how does he play this role and how does he have this position with who he does and how does this all play out? And then you watch it and you're still wondering. You're wondering what you just watched, but it's one of those things that's going to drill into your brain. You're not going to be able to stop thinking about it. You're not going to be able to stop talking about it. This is one of those movies that will be a water cooler. Talk, [00:13:18] Speaker B: chat room. [00:13:19] Speaker A: Talk. We don't have chat rooms anymore, but, like, forums and Reddit and things all over the social media. People are going to be discussing this movie for a long time now. It's definitely not for everybody. There were even when I went to the theater to see this, like everybody else, the theater was probably about 60, 70% full. It was mostly filled. And quite a few people got up during the movie and left. They just they just walked out. And it was just like. You can clearly see why as. As the movie's playing out. Like I said, this movie is designed to piss everyone off, and it takes it a little too far in some scenes. But at the same time, if you. If you make it through it, there is a payoff at the end. And you realize that the payoff is not just at the end. It's been feeding it to you throughout the whole movie. But you don't realize that until you get closer to the end. And then you're like. And then you're putting the pieces together in your brain. You're kind of following the story, and it's making more sense as it's going, except you don't realize that till it gets towards the end, and then you're kind of putting the rest of the pieces together and you're going, oh, I don't know if you're over here on YouTube watching us, where you kind of watch my face do that, but it's kind of like that excited. Oh, and then you get the furrowing of the brow, and it's like all of a sudden, it's like that look of confusion of like, so the O becomes an O. O [00:14:55] Speaker B: what? [00:14:57] Speaker A: Or as much as you were entertained, you're still confused, and it just is kind of all playing out. It's like, okay, it's not even remotely trying to be realistic in what it's doing. Like, it is intentionally trying to exaggerate every part of this. And in doing so, it basically succeeds at what it's doing. Because you can't. I can't. Staying true to the deputy scale. I have to score digger accurately for what it is, exactly what it promises. If you've watched the trailers, if you've even seen the posters, it's like. It's just like, what am I even looking at? And that's pretty much what you're gonna ask yourself through the movie. And a lot of people I talked to, even people that were in the movie with me, it was really divided. People absolutely loved it or they absolutely hated it, and they were convinced it was either the best movie that they ever saw or the worst movie that they've ever seen. So it's really, like I said, it's really polarizing on both. On all directions. It's like, if you can imagine a direction that a movie could push the boundary on too far, this one does it. So where does this. Where does the score land on something like this? I'm going to really surprise you with this. Because it's intentionally as polarizing as it is. I'm not recommending that you go see this movie. You have to be prepared before you go see this movie, you have to be prepared that this is not just an entertaining story that you're just going to be able to walk away with and talk to your friends about. This is one of those ones that's going to drill deep into your head because it is so opposing of its own ideas throughout the whole story. That's where the brilliant part comes in and that's where I really have to dig deep into looking into these. I realize a lot of my reviews are going really long right now, but this one I really had to, like I said, explain this in a way that goes deeper into Digger and I hope I have done that successfully. The score I am giving Digger, like I said, this is going to catch a lot of you by surprise. I am giving digger a 7 out of 10 on the deputy scale. It's watchable, it's memorable. It's more memorable than watchable, honestly. And the plot. Saying it has questionable content is an understatement. But it is memorable. Maybe for all the wrong reasons, but this is memorable on an entirely different level than something we I don't know if I've ever seen one of a movie done such as this where it's going to stick for a long time just because the opposition, opposing ideas are just so drastic throughout this whole story. If you go see this, message me, tag me on social media, send me a message to my email, reach out to me. I would love to know. And if you haven't done so already, please click like and subscribe so you can get the latest and greatest Movie Deputy content where I interrogate these movies for their plot and their content. Kind of like I'm doing now. I'm looking at how this, what the story is, how the story is told and I'm also trying to give you a heads up or warn you that this is going to be upsetting people across the board. There were parts of this movie that even pissed me off. I'm just like, what? Come on. But at the same time it's like it was intentional in everything that it was doing and so I have to give her credit for that. So if you've been wondering if you want to go see this movie or not, I hope that this will help you decide if this is one you're going to either go into this with. And like I said, I'm not spoiling anything for you at all. But you're going to go into this at least with your eyes wide open and you know what to expect. Except you're not going to know what to expect. [00:19:05] Speaker B: Expect. [00:19:06] Speaker A: I know that sounds very contradictory, but that's kind of how the story in itself is. But it's confusing, but it's very clarifying at the same time. So I hope you're enjoying this as much as I am. I will be back again soon. Bye for now.
