[00:00:02] Speaker A: Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Movie Deputy Reviews, where, as you can tell, we are talking about the highly anticipated movie Verity. Now, the trailers for this movie that I've seen in the theater have been, let's just say, a little intense. And I want to preface this by saying, because I always, always, always get hate mail when I review movies like this. Not because the review is bad, but because I never read the books. Because people are like, oh, you didn't mention this in the book. And you didn't mention that in the book. I never read the books. Movies should be strong enough to stand on their own, even when they're based on books. So I think that's an important thing, just to kind of clear the air, get that out of the way right off the bat. I never, ever, ever read the books. And so I hope that that will help kind of clear up a little bit of the mess on this. I judge movies on the movie itself. Now, that may upset some of you and. But come on, give me a chance. Give me a chance. I think you'll be happy with where I end up with this one. I will start off by saying I gave Verity a guilty rating. And if you are familiar at all with the content, you'll understand why. If you're not familiar with the content, you surely will be. You know me. No spoilers ever. So you don't ever have to worry about that. But let's dive into the trailer before we get too deep into this, because this is a little bit the way I've kind of been describing it to people that ask me what I truly thought of this movie. As I've said, it's gone girl meets 50 Shades of Gray. Now, you may be really confused by that, and justifiably so, justifiably so. But it very much is gone. There you can see, like, bits that were maybe inspired by the idea of Gone Girl or technically, that's not really that original of an idea. So you can kind of see how that. And there's. There's Definitely nuances of 50 shades in here as well. Not. Not just because of the cast, but I'm talking in the story itself. But let's jump into the trailer and check this out. And then, of course, we are going to talk a little bit more about some of the details. Spoiler free as always. [00:02:11] Speaker B: You must have questions. [00:02:13] Speaker C: Why can't your wife finished her book series? [00:02:18] Speaker B: You really want to know? This is Verity. Doctors don't think she'll ever walk or talk again. She said you are a brilliant Undiscovered voice. You're the only writer who can finish this last novel. [00:02:50] Speaker C: Her fans know her voice. They would know it's not her. [00:03:18] Speaker D: This is my confession, my autobiography. A writer's words should be honest and bloody and a little bit terrifying. [00:03:44] Speaker C: This place is insane. I feel like I'm losing my mind. [00:03:55] Speaker D: I was his drug, and he was mine. [00:04:09] Speaker C: She was Danny. [00:04:10] Speaker B: Right there. [00:04:11] Speaker C: Jeremy, say something. Say something. [00:04:20] Speaker D: This is your final warning. Only darkness ahead. [00:04:32] Speaker A: Now, you can tell by the music and the tone of kind of what's going on in the trailer that this is an intense movie. Is it horror? No. Is it thriller? Is it suspense? Absolutely. There are some twists in this one that you definitely don't realize that are there until they're there. And then you're like, oh, wow. Like I said, for me especially, I didn't read the book, so I did not know what to expect coming into this at all, except what I'd seen in some of the trailers at the theater. So I kind of came into this blind as well. But in this one, Verity is an author, Verity Crawford, and she has written this whole series of books of honor and betrayal and just kind of all of these ones that have to deal with these very deep, just things that make us up, things that make up what our psyches are. And she's done this from a very unique perspective based on her relationship with her husband. Now, these are very intense books, and people are drawn into them. Well, something happens to her, and so her publisher now has to find a writer that can finish her last book. Well, Lowen is also a very popular writer in the kind of. In the same genre, but a little bit different. It mentioned how they do that. The readers knew Verity's voice. Well, when you're a writer, you tend to have your voice. I tend. I have very much my voice when I'm writing my reviews. When I'm sitting here talking to you. If I'm sitting here talking to you and the words I'm choosing to use and how I'm enunciating and just kind of everything, or how I'm typing it out, doing all that. Like, the reviews that are over on moviedevity.com, those are all written by me and everything. So I'm just sitting there. But people that read those and then they read somebody else's, you can. You can very clearly tell it's that there's a difference. And the same thing goes with here with Verity's writings versus Lohan's writings. So how is Loen supposed to finish Verity's book. Well, she gets invited to their home and gets access to Verity's office. Again, no spoilers here. No spoilers. But what she finds in that office, finds in that office absolutely turns this entire story on its head. And so being there, being around her husband and being around her son, just kind of, she gets up, getting deeper into this than she realized that she wanted to. Well, then there's like, this is where the twist starts to come out and it catches her by surprise and everybody, she's starting to question if she's losing her mind or like what is going on. But then something that she finds in the office just totally flips the whole script on its head. And it's just kind of how that plays out and what kind of continues from that. It's obvious by the way that this movie ends that this is not the end of the story. I don't know what's going to be next. I don't know if there's a, like a sequel to Verity. I didn't even bother researching that. Like I said, I never read the books. But it'll be interesting to see, like, where the movie goes from here. If you're a fan of the book, I do highly recommend going to see this. But if you're not a fan of the book, this is very much a chick flick. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. This is very, very much a chick flick. I mean, just about all the guys that were walking out of the theater with their girlfriends or their wives or whoever, I mean, they just couldn't wait to get on their phones and they were just definitely. It's not, it's not a movie that the bros are going to enjoy. Just putting it plain and simple. The bros just are not going to get this. It's just too, no, it's just too far out there. But if you like the thriller, the drama, the romance, the mystery chick flick type stories, then this is one that you're going to want to check out. If you're looking. If guys, if you're looking for a date movie for your gal and she, she likes these types of movies, she likes the, like the thriller, romance, mystery type stories. Take her to this. I know, I know, but I think she, she might be impressed and so you might win some brownie points. Now, score wise, you're probably wondering coming in at this because I did reference Gone Girl and I did reference the 50 Shades. And I know if you're familiar with me, you know the scores I gave those back in the day, the Thing is, Verity has some plot holes. Verity has some things that. And just about every story has plot holes. So I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna sugarcoat that at all. But with Verity, I'm coming in at a 6.75 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. I was really struggling, just like, do I want to give this a 7? And I'm like, there. There's just a few points in this where it just, like, if you're familiar with the book, you're going to be enthralled throughout the whole movie. If you're not familiar with the book, there's some moments where I didn't, but I was almost tempted to check my phone. I didn't, but I was tempted. Now, I would love to know, like, if you've read the book, how different is this than the book? Feel free to shoot me a message if you've seen the movie and if you've read the book. Like I said, I judge these purely based on the movie itself. The movie, like I said, it has to be able to stand alone by itself. And if it doesn't, then, I mean, that really kills the score right there. There is some strong language. There's a lot of very adult content. I was trying to think how to casually word that to still be professional on that. But if you haven't had a chance to see this yet and you've been wanting to, I hope that this helps. And if this is one you knew nothing about and you just came over here to check out the review, I hope that this helps you as well. If you haven't done so already, please click like and subscribe to get the latest and the greatest movie daffy content. I try my best, especially with movies like this, where I go into them completely blind. I did see some of the trailers online, and of course, we just watched this one here. It's got some very, very familiar faces. It's a very intense movie, and it's not going to be for everybody. But for those who are very familiar with this type of story or familiar with the story itself from the book, this will surely be a favorite for many. I just hope that this will help everybody else. Oh, them too. Them too. I'm not trying to exclude anybody with that. But if you know people, a lot of times when movies are made from books, the book is one way they see the movie, and they're like, oh, it wasn't as good as the book. Well, then, I mean, okay, in order for a book, a movie to be completely accurate, to a book, it'd have to be, like, six, seven hours long, which they can't do. And so maybe that explains some of the plot holes. But I'm anxious to hear back from some of you. But tag me on social media or send me an [email protected] I would love to know your thoughts on this, but until later, guys. Bye.
