Speaker 0 00:00:00 Hello everybody and welcome back. It is once again me your friendly, fun and just plain silly movie deputy of movie Deputy podcasts. I have so much fun with my job. It's like I couldn't have asked for anything better. I get to watch movies and then I get to tell you all about them to help you decide if you wanna see 'em or not. If you got yesterday's show, I mean pretty good movie, but very limited audience. I can't say that about today. Today we are gonna be talking about the movie Grand Smo. If you've ever been a gamer, if you've got a friend or family member that's a gamer, you know how big Grand Smo is as a game only, it was never designed to be a game. And now, hold on, I'm gonna get to more of that here in a minute. But with Grant Tomo, there is, this is definitely a movie for, I would say a hugely white audience. Speaker 0 00:00:48 Okay? I'll be honest, there is one F-bomb in the movie, but considering where it's placed, it almost like it, it fits, it belongs there. The way it's used, I mean, I'm sorry if you don't like the strong language, but the way that they use it in this one, like I said, there's only one F-bomb and it is dropped in such a place that it's like you're almost cheering when they use it. It's just one of those, yes, <laugh>. And like I said, it's just one of those ones and the whole thing is about racing. So if you're not into racing, this one is not gonna be a movie for you. But if you are into racing, yeah, this definitely is. Now mind you, there's some violence and stuff in this, and like I said, there is that f bomb and there's a little bit of other minor language, but I hear, I'm wanna blow your mind just a little bit because I'm actually going to give this an innocent rating. Speaker 0 00:01:30 Now you're breathing. Why in the world is she giving this innocent rating list of language and some violence? Because it's <laugh>, it's nothing over the top, it's just, it's basically racers. I mean, brawling it out a little bit. It's a, there's a movie. It's uh, it's a story about a close family connection, a designer with a dream and how to make that dream happen. And kind of the whole process of seeing it through to the very end, the true underdogs that really come out at the top on this one. There's, there's so many good meanings in this movie and unfortunately get a little bit lost in the storytelling, but if you're really paying attention, this one is going to definitely touch home for a lot of people. Now, mind you, if you've ever been into cars, if you've ever been into racing, if you've ever been into any of that, that you are, this is one that you're, this is almost a must see for those. Speaker 0 00:02:19 Like I said, if you've ever been into cars or anything with that it this like this one is going to draw you. It's gonna be like those old cartoons where the smells would travel along and then it would get hook the person's nose. They'd just come floating through the room just trying to bring 'em to the item. That's kind of what this movie is doing. It's like, come on, come on, you've gotta come watch this. And I agree, this is really a great one to watch. You are not bored for one second. This, this movie is two hours and 15 minutes long. But it does not seem like it at any point in the movie you are. It's just heart stopping, adrenaline flowing action through most of it. And even when it's not the fast action, Speaker 1 00:02:58 The story is going enough that it kinda keeps you energizing, keeps you pumped, and then in the middle of it you're listening to Kenny G and Enya. Now <laugh>, you made me wondering how that fits. And if you watch it, it'll make a lot more sense, but I'm gonna kinda get back to what I was talking about. Oh, oh yeah, I definitely wanna touch on the score and stuff too. I gave Grando a 7.75 out of 10. I so think that this is just so great now, personally, I'm right around the eight range, but critically it's like I had it ha, it was a little off on a couple just really minor details that unless you're paying super close attention to those details, you're probably not gonna even notice. But <laugh>, yeah, this just gets people excited about what it is. But the reason I'm talking like that about Grando is, like I said, if you've ever been around a gamer, if you're a gamer, if you've got a friend or family member that's a gamer parent or child, any of the above, you know how in people can become so engrossed in video games and a lot of people think it's just mindless dribble that you're just sitting there doing stuff on the screen with just for no purpose whatsoever. Speaker 1 00:04:02 And it does, this movie doesn't deal with it, but it actually, the US military does a lot with video games to train their employees and stuff to do thing or train the soldiers to do things. And with grand, theres movie. It was never designed to be a game. It was designed to be a simulator. That's why there's so many of the gamers that are into this game that have the steering wheels and they have the pedals and they have the whole setup so that they practice. And that's the whole point of this game is grand. Theres mo decides to try something different or somebody with grand, somebody with Nissan decides to do it actually. And so they find the best of the best players all over the world and they take 'em to this academy where they are, can basically take their skills from the video game and transport them into real life. Speaker 1 00:04:44 But there's a difference. If you miss the line and you crash and you're, you're out of the game in the game, guess what? You can't reset and you have another life, you do that in real life and you're dead. It's pretty simple. So they're truly looking for the best of the best in all of this. And with this, they find, like I said, they bring the best of this academy and they put 'em through their paces. Like literally. I mean, just pushing 'em to the edge with everything that they're doing. And like I said, the, it just gets the adrenaline going with all of this. And you can't tell that I've enjoyed this one at all, can you? It's like <laugh>, I'm passionate about it. But you go, you go along and you go along with this journey. And with with Jan the, the main star of the movie and he's actually a real person in real life. Speaker 1 00:05:25 This is ba this whole thing is based on a true story. This isn't just some Hollywood stuff. Mind you, there's a lot of Hollywood stuff added in and a lot of stuff that's exaggerated. But I think it's important to note too, before I explain this much more the real life, Jan Martin, I'm gonna best pronounce Martin Borough, I believe is how you pronounce his name. The, the, the real life version of him was his own stunt man in this movie. Like the, the actor that played him the real life racer was the stunt man in the movie. And so that, that is, that is so cool. I saw that on the, the credits and I know there's a lot of stuff in the credits that people sometimes miss, but that's something I wanted to let you know that. So when you watch this, that's something that's really cool that wouldn't Yeah, it just is like, wow, <laugh> on that and okay, you're started thinking, oh my god, she's over the top. Speaker 1 00:06:11 Can she just shut up and tell us about the movie already? Well, and this, as you can imagine, people in the race world are gonna have rivalries with people coming on board from the simulators or quote unquote the video game world. And so there's a lot of that rivalry going on and there's a lot of the whole thing of whether or not he should even be doing this because his parents think he should just settle down and do something real and stop like living in a fantasy world. But he is obsessed with cars because of some, a memory that he has with his dad when he was younger through this whole thing. I mean, and there's one point in the movie when he qual when there's a qua like a qualifying thing and he qualifies and he wins the thing by like a thousandth of a second. Speaker 1 00:06:53 Imagine having to get that detailed and stuff in what you're doing and then to look it up and see, okay, this actually happened and just the, it's the whole process. Okay? It, it's a racing movie. It's a feel good movie, it's an exciting movie. You know how it's gonna end. I don't have to give you any spoilers on that, but getting to that is the journey with this one. And I'm one of these people in real life at least that I would rather just hurry up and get to my destination. But this is one of those movies that you truly enjoy the journey. I've just, I'm just so glad that they finally came out with a movie like this. Now one of the biggest things that surprised me, and this is gonna surprise a lot of you guys too, is this movie did not go woke. Speaker 1 00:07:37 I was so surprised. Now mind you, there is one race car in the movie as it's racing along and it does have the rainbow on it, you know, that represents, but in real life, the actual race that that team's race card was decorated like that. So it's not the movie that's pushing that, it's just that particular race car and that participated in those races had that design. And so I can't fault it for that. There is no, uh, same sex relationships. There are no, there's nothing inappropriate for reasonable common sense audiences. And that is so nice, especially in this day and age with a movie like this that they could have taken it so far over the edge with like, it's just a movie about racing, it's a movie about fun, it's a, it's heart stopping at moments 'cause you're gonna experience things that these guys are experiencing on screen and you get so caught up in the movie that you feel like it's you and you're just grabbing a hold of the edge of your seat. Speaker 1 00:08:30 You're like, ah, and then of course everything's okay. But you don't really realize that in that moment 'cause you get so caught up in the movie and I just had so much fun with it. It's like I said, even with the violence and even with the F bomb and just a few other minor languages things, I am giving this an innocent rating and I know that typically kinda sounds like it almost goes against my own rating system. But no, it's, this is one of those ones that if you've got a child that's excited for something, you wanna encourage it and you wanted to keep it going even if you might not understand it. There are so many meaningful parts of this movie and there are so many homages to like the vintage type racing cartoons there. There's even a speed racing or comment in this one or speed race or reference for those who remember the Mach five <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:09:18 It's just a lot of good, sweet fun that's action packed and really has a good story to it. So if you're looking for something a little outside the norm, or like I said, if you are just a car fanatic, this is one that you've gotta check out for sure. It is just, it's opened in limited theaters on the 11th and it's opening a much wider thing on the 25th. So when this comes around to see you and that is some of your passions, please go check this out and I would love to hear how, what you think about it as well. Remember to stay tuned 'cause we are gonna be finishing up the Matrix series the, uh, the next couple days. And I am just looking forward to all of the highs and lows of the movie as you could, if you couldn't tell, this was a pretty big high of a movie. Speaker 1 00:10:01 So I'm, I was just really excited to bring this to you today. I love it when I bring you the highs and the lows. I mean, the lows are nowhere near as much fun, but it, it's all part of it. It really is. It's all part of it. Feel free to check out if you want like a little bit more details on the notes. There's, there's the notes section under, under the description of the movie. And those notes, those are notes that I take while I'm watching the movie in case you're curious. But, so if you've ever been curious about that, that's what that is. But either way, I hope you have fun. I hope you're having a wonderful day and I will talk to you again soon. Bye-bye.
