[00:00:00] Hello and welcome back. I am so sorry that it took me a little bit longer to get back after our kind of last minute trip to Montana to take care of some family business that I was talking about on my last review. So my apologies on that. But I'm back and better than ever and I am bringing you some movies that you have been anticipating and waiting for, which of course is the same thing. So I brain fart on that.
[00:00:27] Zarina, behave. Showing my kitties is acting up here as usual. My mascots are in here in the office joining me, keeping my life interesting.
[00:00:37] She is the oldest of all my kitties. She is 11 and she is just, she is the tiniest too. She only weighs eight pounds. But we are not here to talk about kitty cats. We are here to talk about movies.
[00:00:50] And what better movie to lead right into than the next one. Following the last couple reviews that I got up, as you know, I did how to Train youn Dragon, how to train youn Dragon 2 and how to Train youn Dragon Hidden World.
[00:01:03] So guess which one I'm talking about today. How to Train youn Dragon. Of course, the new live action one that just came out.
[00:01:10] Now, live action movies get a lot of flack and for good reason because they usually lose a lot of the magic when they go from the animation version to the live action version.
[00:01:25] And I'm just going to be right up front with you. This one lost just, just a little bit of the magic, but it really did the story justice. So if you always wondered what it would be like to like see this in a live action format, the way that they did, this really does justice to the story to the point that I'm actually looking forward to the next one.
[00:01:47] Now I will say that this one is a little bit more intense than the cartoons because though I am giving the 2025 how to train youn Dragon an innocent rating, still I am giving it a tentative innocent rating. I really think this would be best for like 8 to 10 year olds and above just because some of the scenes can be a little intense.
[00:02:11] More so, a lot intense. I mean, nothing like gory or really horribly violent or anything like that, but just where it might be much for some of the youngest viewers.
[00:02:21] I saw this in the theater just like everybody else and when I went to see this in the theater, there were some families that had brought their young children and a couple of the families had to leave during the movie because their kids were getting upset. So I just would like to try to help guide your expectations on this a Little bit on that.
[00:02:42] Just the ones that got up and left their kids were probably 3,4ish age wise. And like I said, it just got to be a little much for them. So I just want to temper your expectations a little bit. Now. At the same time, the graphics of the dragons blow you absolutely away. The way that they have brought them to life, you want, they, they're real, they're real on the screen. And there, there's not this disconnect like they had with when they did the Lion King and when they did the Jungle Book and some other type of the Disney films where you could tell where the CGI ended and the real began.
[00:03:23] Well, I know this one obviously isn't Disney, of course, but there is not that disconnect. It is seamless. And that is so hard to do. Now, that being said, it's important to mention that with the live action, with some of the fast stuff, you do get a little bit more of a blur. And those that are intensely sensitive to motion sickness might want to be aware because some of the flight scenes with Toothless there, as you probably remember from the cartoon version or the animated version, that, I mean, it's a very fast action scene. So you can imagine how that carries into a live action format. And so it gets a little bit.
[00:04:06] I, I don't get motion sick myself, but I could see how somebody could be sensitive to that. Now if you're just mildly sensitive to that, that probably won't bother you. But if, like just the fast motion of that kind of gets to you, then this might get to you a little bit story wise. You're probably wondering where we're at on this one and how they're following this. Well, you still see Stoic the Vast and his son Hiccup. And you see Hiccup trying to make his father proud. And he wants to join in the ranks and he wants to do something. He wants to catch a dragon. He wants to kill a dragon.
[00:04:42] Well, as we know, a downed dragon is a dead dragon. So Hiccup has built this contraption which has a net to try to catch a dragon.
[00:04:51] And it's, it does not end well. It really doesn't. Those who are familiar with the story know that he had, he does in fact, catch a Night Fury. So that's no spoilers there at all. That's actually who Toothless is. Toothless is a Night Fury dragon.
[00:05:07] So he does end up doing that kind of how this all plays out. He still, Hiccup still gets involved with what is known, known as Dragon training in the original story, but in here it is called the Trial of Flame. That is what they call the dragon training in this movie. And they still have the book of dragons and you still have all of the friend. All of his friends and stuff that are now you. You'll notice that Astrid looks quite a bit different.
[00:05:32] And I was really worried how they were going to incorporate that because, I mean, these are Vikings, this is Burke, and all of these people are doing this and it's like, okay, probably going to upset some people, but there were no black Vikings. There really weren't. But the movie kind of integrates that a little bit with adding to the story of how these people of other races and other ethnicities came to the island of Burke and how they are participating in their community.
[00:06:02] And I really think they did a really good job with that. And so that kind of bridges that gap for people who are saying, not my Astrid and all that stuff now. Okay, I'm a little bit on that too because I was the whole not my Ariel and not my. I mean, just kind of all these other things that keep happening, it's like, no, if you want to change the character that much, create a new character.
[00:06:25] But the way that they did this, like I said, it. It bridges that gap a little bit without being in your face about it. And I really appreciate that they took this and they did not go woke with it.
[00:06:39] So if you're familiar with the story, you kind of know how things wrap up. Basically all of the kids go through dragon training, they learn that. And okay, trust me, no spoilers here, no spoilers. But they're able to learn that dragons are not the enemies that they thought they were. There's the line in the animated version of they've killed hundreds of us and hiccups like. And we've killed thousands of them.
[00:07:04] And it's. Forgive my passion on that, but it's a really passionate point in the movie and I'm so glad that they carried that over to the live action and how they work into the whole thing of how they find where the dragons are coming from and where that leads into and how that will carry the story forward.
[00:07:23] If you are familiar with the story, you know the heart that is in this story, like I said, it did lose just a little bit of that. So score wise, it's definitely not a bad score by any means. And I still actually, like I said, would recommend watching this. I am giving the new how to Train Youn Dragon a 6.75 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. Now, I did give the original how to Train youn dragon a 7 out of 10 on the deputy scale. So we're only talking a literal quarter point of a difference. So I, in case you were curious on that, and you want to go back and check that review out again in the credits, they did have that. This movie was dedicated to the loving memory of Margaret Cole. Now, I'm not sure who that is, but the people with the film do.
[00:08:07] But the best part about this is if you manage to get all the way through the movie, which I certainly hope that you do there, you're going to want to stick around through the credits because there is a bonus scene after the credits and that's not something that we see often in stories such as this. So that is definitely something that you're going to want to wait for and check out because it's just a hint of where the story could be going from here.
[00:08:35] So if this is one that you've been excited about, I really hope that you get a chance to check it out. We're going to be talking about another new movie tomorrow, and I am excited to bring that to you because it's just, it's something really special for an entirely different reason. So I hope you come back, as always, if you like this and if this has helped you at all, please like subscribe and share and I will be back soon. Bye. Bye.
