[00:00:01] Speaker A: Hello my friends, and welcome back. I am jumping right in with the second movie that is that opened this weekend. And I'll technically ready or not to open last weekend, but you know what I mean. Today we are talking about a movie called they Will Kill youl. Now, before I get into this, of course I wanted to let you know, if you haven't already figured it out, that this movie is getting a guilty rating. It's just, it's. It's definitely not appropriate for younger viewers in any way, shape or form. It is nonsensical goriness. That's not even a word, but yet I'm sure you understand what I mean by that. But this one, I was really surprised. Again, like I say, if I laugh during a horror movie, that kills it, unless it's intentionally trying to be funny. This one is another one of those ones that's just. It's so bad. It's. It's so bad, it's trying to be good, let's put it that way. And if you're familiar at all with my reviews, you know, I can appreciate movies like that. Look what I did with Good Luck, have Fun, Don't Die. I can definitely appreciate that type of just nonsensical entertaining horror. This one though is. It goes off the rails a bit. And it just. If I couldn't help but thinking as I was watching this movie that it was very similar to like the original Day of the Dead back in the day, only nowhere near as good. Except the Day of the Dead, back in the day, back in the night. In the 1980s or 90s. That one was kind of set in a castle and had to do with time travel and all that. This has nothing to do with that, but it's the gory battle where you're the enemies keep getting up and keep coming after you and the zombies keep getting up and keep coming after you. Here they're not quite zombies, but it's a very similar place that of how it's playing out. And the main idea of the story takes a little bit from Day of the Dead, a little bit from Shining, a little bit from probably any type of exorcism movie type that you can think of. This entire story is about a devil cult. And if that makes you uncomfortable right then and there, I completely understand this. Like I said, this is not for me, for everybody. And you may think, wait, the Ready or Not movies are kind of about that too. Yeah, but they don't stay focused in that throughout the whole movie. That's the main focus of this entire thing. The highlight of the movie is. And the surprisingly, the surprising star of the movie, in a lot of ways are probably the most entertaining star is not the one that you see right here on the poster. For me, the most entertaining star of the movie is an eyeball now here that probably is going to leave you wondering, like, what in the world is she talking about? And I was really surprised they didn't put it in the trailer, but it did make an appearance on the red carpet. So if you have had a chance to check out the original opening night of this movie, they had this eyeball as an appearance on the. Had an appearance on the red carpet. So it's just kind. That was probably from, like, at least for me, the highlight of the movie. But before I get too far into this review, I want to share the trailer with you. So let's check this out together. This is kind of even a gory trailer for the more sensitive viewers. Just to kind of give you a heads up. You know it's bad when they put the trailer in red. [00:03:40] Speaker B: The Virgil was built in 1923. Today, it's one of the most exclusive buildings in Manhattan. Hi, I'm the new maid. With such wealth comes the expectation of the highest quality of service. That's a lot of locks. [00:04:06] Speaker C: This building is a temple to Satan. Each month we must pay with a human sacrifice. [00:04:16] Speaker A: A lot of the movie plays on the whole concept of a life debt, of a life for a life. And so that's kind. That's kind of the big thing that plays out throughout this. [00:04:29] Speaker C: Danae, you are the offering. Gotcha. [00:04:53] Speaker A: Now, it says that this was done by the same director of it, but it actually looked. It fit. The whole thing with the roll. This one. I don't know if they. Sorry. I don't know if they're working with a much, much smaller budget or what they were dealing with with this one, but it shows. And maybe that's intentional, but you really have to try this hard to make a movie look this bad. It's like that doesn't happen on accent. So some of this has to be intentional. You little shit. [00:05:44] Speaker B: There has to be a way out of here. [00:05:47] Speaker C: The building was designed to be a death trap. [00:06:01] Speaker A: And for those of you listening on the podcast, any of the whole, like, squish, squish, splash sounds, those are blood. Or they're supposed to indicate blood. The blood that we see on the screen here looks like somebody put red food coloring in a sprinkler. [00:06:18] Speaker B: Suffering is on the loose. Be on the lookout I just dropped her picture in the group chat. Fuck you. [00:06:27] Speaker A: No, fuck you. [00:06:29] Speaker B: No, bitch. [00:06:29] Speaker A: Fuck you. Fuck you. [00:06:34] Speaker B: I don't know what is going on in here, but, Gray, I am forgiving. [00:06:45] Speaker A: Who the are you? Where did you learn how to fight like that? [00:07:12] Speaker B: Prison. [00:07:21] Speaker A: So that is. They will kill you. I didn't do a whole lot to the poster. I just kind of squared it off and moved some of the text for the podcast image, which, if you're on our podcast, you had a chance to check that out already. If you're over here on our YouTube channel, I hope you're enjoying kind of seeing the differences in that. But the whole premise of this story is two sisters that are escaping an abusive household. One of them manages to escape, one of them does not. And then the older sister is determined to make things right for the younger sister and find her and rescue her. But what she doesn't expect is she will find herself right in the middle of a devil cult that her sister has joined. And there's only one way to get her sister out. And so whether or not she succeeds at that is left to be determined. But it's not gonna be. The ending is not as predictable as you might think. So this one, it's. It's a bit of an adventure. There was only one other person in the theater when I went to go see this, and he surprisingly quite enjoyed this movie, and he was asking me if I enjoyed it. I'm just like, personally and professionally. No, there is just. It's. It's over the top, but it doesn't give you enough to satisfy it being so far over the top. It's like, if you're going to be this far over the top, you've got to give me something. You've got to give me something to go on. And like I said, the highlight of the movie is the eyeball. As weird and gross as that sounds, it's just. It's definitely not what you expect. And so when you're watching all of these over the top fight scenes, and if you thought things were a little silly in the trailer, things get even. Even more so in the movie itself. If you are just into nonsensical horror that just. I'd like to say it goes nowhere, but, I mean, there is. There is an underlying plot behind all of this, but when it's revealed, I don't know if it's enough to salvage it. This movie is far from forgettable. It is. It's one of those ones that's just kind of like you're Just left scratching your head. It's like, okay, how this one, like it makes you questions like who, what, where, why and how that this, this came to be. And like what brainchild put this together? Somebody had to imagine this. So as she sort of fight to stay alive, fight to save her sister, it's revealed even in the trailer that she is the offering for tonight. And so how that plays out and what she must do to have any chance at trying to escape herself will literally cost her everything. But not in the way you might think. So if this is one you've been wanting to see, I just want you to go into this prepared that it is. This is not supposed to be realistic horror. This is not supposed to be satisfied. This, this is cult classic type horror. This is one of those ones that is. It's going to have a fan base, but its fan base is going to be a very small percentage of people. There are just certain movies like that that people love to hate and they hate to love. And this I think is going to be one of them. Score wise on they will kill you. It may not surprise you that I am giving this a 3.25 out of 10 on the Deputy scale. Just because if you really must see this, wait for it on. Digital movie tickets cost so much nowadays that this. Yeah, I cannot in good faith recommend that you see this in the theater. Even if you're into those kitschy just over the top ones that just don't deliver. For some people this one will. Some people will find this greatly entertaining and fun. I actually know people that would are going to really enjoy this type of movie. But it again, it is a very small portion of society as a whole and I just think you should be prepared going into this. So I hope this helps. As always, I hope that you come back soon for more Movie Deputy adventures. We are going to have an awesome movie up on Monday. It's a movie called the First Hymn.
