Show Notes

Wow, so much has changed and so much has stayed the same. Come along with me as I narrate this next adventure.

Original Review:

The last time we saw this Greek family, they were going through the process of wedding planning. Even after that was all done, life was still going on (though we didn't see much of the after). Now we are welcomed back into their lives fourteen (14) years after we saw them last. Ian and Tuola's daughter is now a senior in high school and preparing to spread her wings and fly. The only thing is as much as her parents want her to fly, they want to clip her wings as well. In the midst of everything going on in their own household, something happens in their family that changes the entire family dynamic. As they work together to remedy this new problem they'll each have to deal with personal issues as well as the family unit. So where does the new wedding come in? You'll just have to watch it and find out. This was so refreshing for a sequel like this. Even after all these years, the characters have remained the same, the story has flow as it stands alone and as it ties into the previous story. We're brought back into the traditional Greek family and traditions, in doing so there are some fine lines that are being traversed. Does it go too far? Not really, it is a meaningful sequel to a beloved movie that just might lead into something more. Are you ready? Come find out.

Speaker 0 00:00:00 Why hello again and welcome back. Today is Tuesday, September 12th, almost halfway through the month. This is your favorite deputy of movie Deputy podcasts, bringing to you the movie Deputy Review of My Big Fat Greek Wedding Two. And I'm a poet. I don't know it <laugh>, so I've just realized how many words I was just rhyming right there. So I was just a little bit silly. As I promised you yesterday, I am bringing you this full interrogation of my big Fat Greek wedding two. Now, for fans of the first movie, having to wait 14 years for a sequel is like wow. And you'll, as you'll see if you've watched this movie or if you haven't watched it yet, the timeline doesn't exactly fit up, but that doesn't really take away from a whole lot of the story. You just can't really pay attention to the whole timeline as it just doesn't work. Speaker 0 00:01:00 <laugh>, and you'll understand what I'm mean here in a minute, you're probably wondering, okay, would she give this one? Well, that's a tiny bit lower than the last one. I gave my big Fat Greek wedding, two a 7.5 on the movie Deputy scale. And though this movie is rated PG 13, I am bucking the norms on that. And I'm actually giving this an innocent rating because there's just not enough in this unless you are just a complete, forgive the term prude on just like just basic kissing and just very, very mild language. It's like, honestly, your kid's gonna hear worse if you take 'em out to Target or something like that. So <laugh> just, there's just it's life and it's nothing that's over the top or really inappropriate at all during this whole movie. So I did give this an innocent rating. Like I said, it is rated PG 13 and as you'll notice, if you've come to follow movie w review, as much as I don't tend to completely trust the M P A A rating, sometimes their stuff is just a little too stuffy for my taste. Speaker 0 00:02:09 And so I try to bring these to the everyday person. I don't wanna talk to just one group or another group. And you know, if you are technically in that like prudish category, that doesn't hurt anything either. I mean, if I offended you, I apologize, but it's like that's not the whole point here. So I mean, if I, it's just free speech, plain and simple. If you don't like what I say, turn it off. It's like I said, it doesn't get much simpler than that. But I do try to address these to all ages, to all demographics, everything. I just wanna pretend like I'm sitting here talking to my best friend about these movies and that's kind of how I approach the reviews on these as well. But we're gonna go ahead and jump right in with the review and then we'll talk about it a little bit more before we wrap up. Speaker 0 00:02:53 Now, the last time we saw this Greek family, they were going through the process of wedding planning. Even after all of that was done, life was still going on though we didn't get to see much of that after. Now we are welcome back into their lives 14 years after we saw them last. Ian and Talula's daughter is now a senior in high school and preparing to spread her wings and fly. The only thing is, as much as her parents want her to fly, they also wanna clip her wings as well. In the midst of everything going on in their own household, something happens in their family that changes the entire family dynamic. As they work together to remedy this new problem, they'll each have to deal with personal issues as well as the family unit. So where does the new wedding come in? You just have to watch it and find out. Speaker 0 00:03:46 This was so refreshing for a sequel like this. Even after all these years, the characters have remained the same. The story has flow as it stands alone and ties into the previous story, we were brought back into the traditional Greek family and traditions. And in doing so, there's some fine lines that are being traversed. Does it go too far? Not really. Is it me? Is it a meaningful full sequel to a beloved movie that just might lead into something more? Hmm, are you ready? Come and find out. And like I said, I think that really embodies the whole thing. And I know I use that term a lot, so forgive me on that. But this one, like I said, the timeline doesn't really work. 'cause this is 14 years after we saw 'em last. Their daughter's a senior in high school. I mean, unless she's a prodigy, the math just doesn't work. Speaker 0 00:04:35 <laugh>, which I mean, she's not in this movie, so we just kind of have to ignore a little bit of that. And there's, like I said, there's family dynamics, there's always gonna be drama within families. And if you say there's not, uh, you may be concerned because every single family out there has drama at some level. The Greeks are just on a whole different level with some of that because they have certain expectations going into certain events that if they're not met, things just kind of fall apart. So even though their daughter is getting ready to go off into her own life, they're still setting a lot of like, she's trying to go off and fly. And I, I like my analogy that they're trying to clip her wings <laugh>. I mean, it just kind of sums that up in a nutshell. So like I said, this was a really good sequel. I'm glad we didn't have to wait 14 years for another sequel. Oh wow. We, or no, no, sorry, I'm brain farts. Just seven years till this one. And I was just thinking like 2006. Okay, no, 2016. Yeah, like even my brain kind of goes every now and then, but ultimately it's a lot of fun. I hope you go back and check out my Big Fat Greek wedding three review over this last weekend. And I'm hoping that you are going to be enjoying the next couple movies we're talking about. I can't Speaker 1 00:05:57 Wait to hear your reactions. I always love the feedback and stuff that I get from you guys. And I am actually gonna be doing a q and a show now. I do wanna address, I had promised everybody our new logo by the end of this month or by the end of last month, and now we are halfway into this month and we're just still finalizing it. So I will be unveiling that soon. So just hang on. I am definitely getting to that. And we are gonna be giving away some awesome prizes when that goes live as well. So be sure to stay tuned for the upcoming information that's happening and I can't wait to come back and talk to you about more movies. Until later. Bye-bye.
